A man must get a real job instead of living off his trust fund if he wants to keep his visitation rights. Jason Priestly stars. Director Rudolph Maté dramatizes the pioneering adventures of two of America's greatest explorers in the stirring 1950s Western THE FAR HORIZONS. Fred MacMurray and Charlton Heston star as legendary duo Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who lead a historic exploration of the Pacific Northwest following President Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Searching for a water route from the newly purchased city of St. Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific Ocean, Lewis and Clark encounter wary natives, rugged terrain, and harsh weather conditions as they travel through the still-uncharted frontier with the help of Native American guide Sacajawea (Donna Reed). Filmed in Wyoming, THE FAR HORIZONS utilizes lush location cinematography and and a thrilling blend of action, drama, history, and romance to recreate a pivotal moment in the Wild West mythos. | | Drums Along The Mohawk DVD (1939)
Far Horizons DVD
$10.29 DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK is John Ford's first film in Technicolor (which recently perfected far richer shadings of color than had previously been possible), and the director uses it to stunning effect. The film stars Henry Fonda as Revolutionary War-era farmer Gilbert Martin, who, in 1776, has returned with his well-born wife, Lana (Claudette Colbert), to his rustic cabin in the increasingly dangerous Mohawk River valley. At first unaccustomed to the harsh physical challenges of frontier life, Lana adjusts to the work at hand and is soon able to help her husband in the fields. Shortly after they learn that the colonies are at war with the British, their farmhouse is attacked and burned to the ground by a party of Tory-led Indians. The feisty Widow McKlennar (Edna May Oliver) provides temporary shelter for the couple, but it's only a matter of time before the Indians launch a more brutal assault. Save for THE QUIET MAN, DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK contains the richest passages of pastoral imagery in Ford's entire canon, the visual beauty nearly upstaging the spectacular and terrifying Indian battles. The performances, particularly Oliver (who garnered an Oscar nomination) as the vinegary widow and the superbly stoic Fonda, enable ...

$9.69 William Wellman deftly directed this wide-open Western packed with suspense and set in the Wild West during 1867. Gregory Peck plays Stretch, the leader of a gang of saddletramps who are robbing banks across the frontier. In their travels they come across an abandoned town strangely inhabited by only one old man and his daughter, Mike, who is played in a spirited turn by Anne Baxter. The two put a wrench in the plans of the outlaws, who were hoping to hide out in peace. As the sex-starved outlaws circle the rambunctious young woman, they also wonder if the bizarre duo could be sitting on a hidden gold mine. Richard Widmark is noteworthy as Dude, the only other ...

Far Horizons review
$28.39 Based on a strange premise, British TV show JONATHAN CREEK has nevertheless found an audience among fans of similarly themed crime dramas such as CRACKER and INSPECTOR MORSE. The story begins when journalist Madeline Magellan (Caroline Quentin) is snooping around and meets Jonathan Creek (Alan Davies). Creek invents magic tricks for a prominent magician, and Magellan uses his ingenuity to help her crack a particularly puzzling case she is working on. The two subsequently team up for more crime-solving riddles, and frequent hints of romance between the pair gently tease the audience throughout. This release includes the entire second season of the show.
Jonathan and Maddy solve puzzles and tackle bizarre ...
