When a soundtrack jacket sports the phrase "Music From & Inspired by the Motion Picture," it usually means that the film's financiers -- who inevitably own or run a record label -- have some hot, crappy new band to push and would love to include their latest single alongside five to ten minutes of actual film music. In the case of the Matthew McConaughey popcorn-snapper Sahara, the producers have actually built a soundtrack around the lead character -- McConaughey's globe-trotting protagonist is a true classic rock aficionado -- and loaded up the jukebox with 11 hard-driving, pot-smoking anthems like Canned Heat's "On the Road Again," Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American Band," as well as more obscure FM nuggets from the Kinks, Head East and the Marshall Tucker Band. Composer Clint Mansell's Afro-pop-tinged score is given two-minutes-an- twenty-seconds at the end. ~ James Christopher Monger Sahara Soundtrack Review

Purchase Music From Sahara CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Sahara Soundtrack album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Sahara Soundtrack CD music
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's ...

Sahara Soundtrack music CDs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. ...
| | Marshall Tucker Band Where We All Belong CD (1974) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Sahara Soundtrack songs
$10.69 Originally released on Capricorn Records (0145). Includes liner notes by Barry Alfonso.
Although it runs a little long, Where We All Belong captures the sound of The Marshall Tucker Band coming into its own. Half the tracks are new studio recordings, which are more focused than their previous releases; the other half is a harder-edged, jam-oriented live set. Taken together, they show that the band was progressing musically. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Sahara Soundtrack album
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and ...
