Under the direction of guitarist Andy Taylor, the Power Station is an attempt to break free from the constraints of Duran Duran's polished synth pop, adding elements of funk, courtesy of Chic drummer Tony Thompson, as well as straight-ahead hard rock, courtesy of vocalist Robert Palmer. Everything is polished with a glossy sheen, which makes the record sound quite similar to Duran Duran, although without their sense of popcraft. Includes a cover of T. Rex's "Get It On (Bang a Gong)" and the single "Some Like It Hot." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

A complete Power Station, at last Being an '80s music fan, buying the Power Station CD was a must. I have it on vinyl as well plus all the import remixes. This newly remastered PS CD is awesome. Not only do you get the tracks you've known but also the ever-elusive track SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW, SOMEONE'S GONNA PAY from Schwarzenegger's '80s action flick COMMANDO. This track wasn't readily released and I was elated to see it included on this version, along with the remixes of all the singles. Plus, you get a DVD of footage on making the album, 3 music videos and an SNL performance with the late Robert Palmer (Michael Des Barres ended up touring w/PS, as Palmer didn't so this performance is a rarity). If you loved the '80s and Tony Thompson's power drumming, you have to buy this. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Submitted by k.choy (Honolulu) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
excelent release from Evil record comany If record companys provided this much quality and features at the price (sale 14.00) the reason to file share would be nullified. Lets hope this is a trend as this item is a gem!!! The best part of the DVD is the musucians showing the creative process in the studio and the remastering on the cd is Awesome!

Extras make it worthwhile The original release was hit and miss, with a couple of outstanding tunes and a fair amount of filler. But the DVD items are great, the vintage 80's videos are classic, and the Saturday Night Live footage - the only time this line-up played live with Robert Palmer - is fantastic. Power Station album
$30.49 After issuing three consecutive studio double LPs, Chicago topped themselves with this four-album live box set. As the title suggests, At Carnegie Hall, Vols. 1-4 (Chicago IV) (1971) finds the band at the venerable New York City venue during a five-night stand (April 5-April 10) in the spring of 1971. The septet -- which includes the respective talents of Terry Kath (lead guitar/vocals), Robert Lamm (keyboards/vocals), Peter Cetera (bass/vocals), Danny Seraphine (drums), Lee Loughnane (trumpet/vocals), James Pankow (trombone), and Walter Parazaider (woodwinds/vocals) -- were at their unquestionable peak of initial popularity. Their previous ...

| | Eagles Box Set CDs (2005) Limited Edition; Boxed Set
Power Station album
$110.35 Housed in a simple, dark-gray box embossed with the band's name and a limited-edition number, this minimal-yet-handsome set contains all of the Eagles' albums between 1972's EAGLES and 1980's LIVE, remastered and encased in perfect miniature reproductions of the original LP sleeves. Although there are no outtakes, alternate mixes, or B-sides to spoil the unity of the albums, collectors should note the inclusion of a ninth bonus disc, containing both tracks of the band's rare 1978 Christmas single. Taken as a whole, the box charts the Eagles' evolution, from the most accessible of the original country-rock groups (EAGLES, the classic concept album DESPERADO) to the kings of Los Angeles ...

| | Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards CD (2001)
Power Station music CDs
$10.35 Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards includes: Lars Frederiksen (vocals, guitar); Big Jay Bastard (bass); Scott Abels (drums, percussion); Unknown Bastard (background vocals).
It looks more complicated onscreen than it is in reality. Singer/guitarist Lars Frederiksen sat down with his Rancid bandmate Tim Armstrong and wrote a batch of songs mostly about his youthful experiences in his hometown Campbell, CA. Frederiksen then recruited a group -- bassist Big Jay, drummer Scott Abels, and the ubiquitous Unknown Bastard on backing vocals -- and recorded the songs with Armstrong overseeing production duties. Obviously, stylistically, Bastards remains fairly close to the Rancid mothership. The change in rhythm section inevitably forces the group's sound to be more riff-driven, as Rancid bassist Matt Freeman isn't present to help carry the melody. Even so, at least four of the tracks would fit ...
| | Jam Camp CD (2002)
Power Station songs
$11.39 With this debut release, Jam Camp strives to recapture the excitement of classic jam sessions, placing soul and statement before gimmick and hook.******************Don't miss out: Black Hills Jam (2004) and Jam Camp Live! (2006) are also available here at CDBABY... get 'em all!******************Reviews:"If you are bored with formulaic pop and pine for the good old days of 'super sessions', guitar duels and 70's art-rock, this will be right up your alley." - Midi Guitarist"Instrumental rock fans unite; this disc has it all! Guitarists David Broyles and Michael Smith, bassist Jess White and drummer Joel Veatch reference tons of people, bands and ideals: Dixie Dregs, Allan Holdsworth (circa IOU), Pat Methany, Passport, Steve Howe, Patrick O'Hearn (on the surreal electronic ditty "Industrial Dawn"), Andy Summers, Leo Kottke. In other words, Jam Camp's debut dabbles in laissez-faire blues ("Shake Those Blues"), breezy jazz-rock ("West 8"), melodic introspective rock ("Circles"), modes of user-friendly boogie-funk, West Coast jazz-psychedelia and just about everything in between... Jam Camp do what they do with great skill and ease." -i/e Magazine "Primary influences seem to be the 1980's instrumental work of Frank Zappa, touches of Return to Forever and Shadowfax." - Audion, UK"Jam Camp is a four-man group that apparently gets together for the joy of just playing... I sure hope they decide to make this an on going series and release the rest of their holdings. Jam Camp practices fusion along the lines of Janne Schaeffer, Lee Ritenour, Crossfire and all those others who inhabit that shadow world of not-jazz-not-prog fusion that critics have a tough time with. Jam Camp has a driving upbeat instrumentality ...

$10.15 Counterfall band really began when experienced guitar instructor Matthew Hoover recognized profound songwriting ability in a 14 year old student Jamey Williams. The two began to work out arrangements to Jamey’s songs and soon added brothers Nick and Stephen Wiley to form an official band. The quartet began to perform locally and worked tirelessly towards a debut CD built upon Jamey’s earliest songs. The Wiley brothers stayed with the band long enough to complete the CD but had to ultimately step away due to numerous other ...
