| | Jon Jenkins Beyond City Light CD Jon Jenkins Discography of CDs
An Amazon.com Best of 2005 selection.Artist Jon Jenkins is one of the standout artists on this California based New Age-ambient label. His style leans more towards the melodic-themematic, which always exists within a lush atmospheric space created from an array of synths and processing. This is a stand out release from his body of releases. If you enjoy the classic period Patrick O'Hearn and Eric Wøllo, then this could be a new discovery for you.- Steve Roach, steveroach.com"When infinity is the core of your creative palette, some things just take time. Beyond City Light arrives seven years after keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jon Jenkins released Flow, his first solo recording and a sterling piece of mind-stretching, deep-space sound design. Beyond City Light travels a similar path, with some variation, as it gradually transports listeners deep into the sonic ether. Jenkins in places supplements his spacious, resonant, slowly unfurling soundscapes with textures from flutes, wordless female vocals, and more emphatic percussion. Jenkins--an admirer of Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, and other progressive-leaning acts--crafts some splendid mental theater here, particularly the opening track and the concluding five selections, highlighted by the benevolent celestial sheen captured in "Sky of Surrender." For fans of electronic/ambient recordings who prefer the mostly atmospheric, occasionally rhythmic region of the progressive-music continuum, Jenkins is a composer worth noting."--Terry Wood, Amazon.com Jon Jenkins Beyond City Light Songs Beyond City Light Review

Beyond City Light album
$9.55 Jon Jenkins does superior, ambient keys, composing, and performing 11 tranceworld pieces. As Steve Roach, Robert Rich, Giles Reaves, Michael Stearns, Vidna Obmana, or Jeff Greinke would deliver, so Jenkins offers us a classic. Moody, spaced, subdued, tribal, introspective, relaxing, flowing, dream-imaged music abides within Flow. Peter Buffet and Tim Story stylings in piano portions are pleasantly evident. That Michael Shrieve-styled percussion effect appears here and there. Best comparisons on this CD would be Roach's Dreamtime Return crossed with Buffet's The Waiting. There resides a yearning and inner resolve in each track, coupled with understanding and depth of soul. Jenkins' work inspires and heals. David Helping, Jeff Pearce, and Howard Givens contribute ambient electric guitars on assorted tracks. ~ John W. Patterson

| | Kitaro's World Of Music Featuring Yu-Xiao Guang CD (1996)
Beyond City Light CD music
$13.15 In spite of its title, KITARO'S WORLD OF MUSIC does not actually feature performances by Kitaro. The series is in fact a platform for lesser-known and more traditional musicians who might otherwise be ignored if not for the imprimatur and production skills of their more famous contemporary.
Yu-Xiao Guang, a Chinese huquin (violin) performer who was prominent on Kitaro's HEAVEN AND EARTH soundtrack, inaugurates the WORLD OF MUSIC series with this collection of songs that originally appeared on Kitaro's own albums. Though they're intended mostly for hardcore Kitaro fans, the pieces are nonetheless poignant and shorn of studio pyrotechnics.
\"I\'m always looking for new sounds and gifted performers\" says Kitaro, the award winning, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. Produced ...

Beyond City Light album
$13.89 Delano Grove is a rock and roll band, pure and simple. It may be a tired term, but once in a while bands come along that epitomize the beautifully dysfunctional tenets of this musical art form. Their melodically-driven, multi-instrumental, vocal-harmony infused music has the frenzy of a band nearly tearing itself apart with differing influences and creative rage, rescued by a great sense of song form, and a collective ear for the hook that makes you move. Luke Lappin (lead vocals, guitar) and Karen Lappin (lead vocals) are married both legally and creatively, and their beauty and tension on stage nearly matches their private sparring matches. With Cousin Morgan Lappin on the drums, and lifelong friends Mike Stock (keyboards, lead vocals), Ed Pasquale (lead guitar), and Zach Rose (bass) their music sounds like a musical version of their experience with each other in life. This honesty is what makes Delano Grove’s music special. The songs are a conversation you can bang your head to. An argument you can ...
