On the heels of their 2004 debut EP, Fading Days, the youthful Federal Way, WA-based emo-punk stalwarts in Amber Pacific return with a heightened presence of rock muscle on The Possibility and the Promise. Launching the album with the scorching, emotive "Everything We Were Has Become What We Are" -- which goes so far as to incorporate a string section at one point -- the bandmembers exhibit a musical depth beyond their early twenties, even if the simplistic Dashboard Confessional-like lyrics seem so high school. Still, frontman Matt Young is a star in waiting, as his peers borrow from everyone from Thrice to Matchbook Romance to AFI. Those punk and pop-punk inspirations aren't bad ones, as the hook-laden "Gone So Young" and the sappy punch of "The Right to Write Me Off" assure, and with time and little more ingenuity Amber Pacific could make the big time. ~ John D. Luerssen

Awesome This band is awesome and I love their music. I can't wait for their next album to come out, too. Submitted by Yoshi (Cheney, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Straightforward "The sound was urgent, slick punk-pop in the vein of Story of the Year, the Audition, and the All-American Rejects." Are you sure? They sound far off from the sounds of Story of the Year & All-American Rejects. They chant emocore in their veins with a touch of indie. This band touches up that indie mark real well. If they could follow-up with their line-up changes, this band is destined to make their mark like Story of the Year is doing. Back off that "emo" tag. Shhh! Submitted by Hmmm ... Sweet PopR¤ck! These guys are simply amazing...can't believe they're not famous yet, or are they...well they should be!!
The music is so cathy in each song, even in the piano song(Best piano song ever). Matt Young's voice is extreamly good.
Dango the drummer remind me a little about travis barker, he's very talanted, not just one of these backup drummer or what you would call them!!
If you're into all these poprock bands out there you have to buy this!! Submitted by Michael182Hemminsen (Ikast) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Possibility And The Promise album
$11.69 "Honey-Dipped" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
The phenomenon of smooth jazz could not have taken hold the way it has without guiding lights in the form of artists who have found a way to peak through formulaic production. Dave Koz's sound is one of those beacons, an uncannily vocal-inflected saxophone (see "Love Changes Everything") that is shot through and through with potent emotion. Along with partner and fellow fusician Jeff Lorber on SAXOPHONIC, Koz has crafted a suite of tunes in three acts with a curtain call to boot. Of course, it also helps that Koz understands the centrality of a strong hook in pop music. Act II kicks of with "Let It Free" replete with one of those uplifting release choruses that seems destined for repeated airplay. "Saxophonic (Come On Up)" is a masterful blend of slinky grooves and sexy, cooing R&B. Also featured are supporting performances by Brian McKnight, Chris Botti, and Marc Antoine. With tight arrangements seamlessly blending the real (horns, guitars, drums, etc.) and the virtual (samples that include Lee Morgan's classic "The Sidewinder," processed instruments, and vocals), Koz and company have compiled a tasty menu of diverse moods, from the funky to the serene.

Possibility And The Promise CD music
$12.85 Since releasing his first record under the Myracle Brah moniker in 1998, Andy Bopp has firmly established himself as one of the finest talents in the contemporary pop underground, writing great songs and playing them with skill, passion, and a keen understanding of what makes this stuff work. Like most of his previous Myracle Brah albums, Bopp played and sang everything on Can You Hear the Myracle Brah? except for drums (by Greg Schroeder) and some backing vocals (from Chad Hopkins and Caitlin Bopp), and no one since Richard X. Heyman has managed the neat trick of making an overdubbed one-man band sound this natural and rock this forcefully. While too many acts who trade on power pop traditions sound too fey for their own good, Bopp understands that the Raspberries, Badfinger, and Big Star were rock & roll bands who could move the crowd, and he has no fear of cranking up the volume (and the tempo), and "Walking on Water," "Trans Sister," and "Big Kids Wanna Rock" ...
