| | Eric B & Rakim Paid In Full CD Eric B & Rakim Discography of CDs
(6 Customer Reviews)
Disc two is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
PAID IN FULL is perhaps the most important album of the middle-school era of hip-hop--"I Know You Got Soul," "I Ain't No Joke," and "Eric B. Is President" are as classic as hip-hop songs get. Eric B. & Rakim pioneered the minimalist sound that would form the new-school of hip-hop aesthetics with Eric B.'s innovative distillation of James Brown samples to pure drum and bass-line splendor and Rakim's narcissistic monotonal lyrical bombast. The title cut forwarded the manifesto that all others in hip-hop were to follow: the eternal search for dead presidents.

The platinum edition of PAID IN FULL also includes a CD of all the official U.S. and U.K. remixes, the most famous of which is Coldcut's infamous "7 Minutes of Madness" mix of the title track. The remix doubles the length of the track and brings in sampled guest appearances by then television announcer Don Pardo and then little-known Egyptian vocalist Ofra Haza. Other standouts on the second disc include Derek B.'s remix of "Paid in Full," featuring snatches of John Cougar's "Jack and Diane" and Richie Rich's mix of "I Know You Got Soul," which showcases the guitar riff from Rufus & Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody."

Eric B & Rakim Paid In Full Songs Paid In Full Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews HIP-HOP MANIFESTED INTO ONE ALBUM!!! To the old-schoolers like myself (h.s. class of '87), to the new-schoolers who may have seen Rakim on the VH-1 Hip-Hop awards, THIS IS THE DEFINITIVE HIP-HOP ALBUM TO GET!!! I'll admit, when I first heard "Chinese Aritmatic" & "Eric B is on the Cut" I didn't too care for them. But over time even these 2 instrumental tracks that Eric B is cutting over, grew on me. That being said, EVERY SINGLE SONG IS STRAIGHT FIRE!!!! If the Source magazine was in existence back then, this would have gotten a 5-Mic blessing for sure!! It was from this album that Rakim, single handedly, changed the technique of shouting rhymes (Run-DMC, LL Cool J, etc - no disrespect to them!). He initiated the "slow-flow" monotone art of rhyming, clearly evident on the slower tempo tracks of "My Melody", "Paid in Full" & "As the Rhyme Goes On". Rakim's voice and lyrically inovative rhymes skillfully interwoven with 5% Nation of Islam teachings, made Rakim & his DJ a force to be reckoned with in Hip-Hop. Often imitated, but NEVER duplicated, his like HAS YET TO BE SEEN TO THIS VERY DAY!!!! Submitted by Born Magnetic Allah (East Jerusalem, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Hailing from Atlanta, GA, the hardcore trio Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz are the premier practitioners of the southern rap sub-genre colloquially dubbed "crunk." The style is exemplified by forceful, primal beats, over-the-top, chanted vocals, and a bad-boy/party-hardy attitude that bypasses ...
