$11.49 Picture a world where each and every French dance band was unflinchingly bad; where every Air or Cassius or even Phoenix never existed since every homegrown, starving musician looked to somebody like ATB instead of St. Germain. Luckily, this is but a piece of fiction. Because Ludovic Navarre created such a saintly pseudonym, employing deep house, tittering breaks, and down-tempo attitudes that -- in over-simplistic terms -- virtually invented the entire French house movement that has crossed over more times than a Diana Ross impersonator. The question is, does being first make you any good? Taking cues from acid jazz and its chin-stroking underground, songs ...

$9.59 DISCOVERING ARTISTS A former band mate of Pete Yorn, Waz has created a dreamy, introspectively romantic album that reflects his own style. His sound is a cross between Howie Day, Breaking Laces and Yorn himself. His voice is deep and raspy, and his lyrics are abstractly honest. "Mine to Remember" is an acoustically industrial track that represents the best Waz has to offer. In it, he sings, "You weren't the first/But you'll be the last/To see inside." This guy has a beamingly bright future ahead of him, and I think the EP is only the beginning of a great career. If you like Day or Yorn, pick this up...now.Favorite Tracks: Summer Love, Mine to Remember Rating: 4. 5 stars Kristen PasculliMUSIC CONNECTION MAGAZINE"Nothing Lasts Forever," sings former Pete Yorn guitarist Waz, but his five song demo is consistently impressive to the end. Everything is realized at a radio-quality level, including "Mine To Remember," a tale of unrequited love that benefits from stellar production touches. "Runaway" is a haunting pledge of devotion, spare and effective with Waz's warm, raspy, resonant voice. Based on the disc's merits and the artist's experience as a major- label sideman, we feel Waz is a truly viable prospect for A&R consideration. Waz - EP - "Mine to Remember EP" (Wazmusic, 2003)Â AMERICANA UK REVIEWRecently heralded by no less than Bob Harris (BBC) and holder of the cool accolade of having one of the most impressive artists sites on the web (you can pick clips from any of his tracks while you browse the site), Waz on top of this has pulled together a hugely successful collection of songs on his debut EP "Mine to Remember." Originally a longtime bandmate of the excellent Pete Yorn, Waz went into the studio in December 2001 with producer R. Walt Vincent and came out with this - and album of infectious, indie-rock infused with layers of Byrds-type guitar and the odd eighties reference thrown in. From the opening energy of "Nothing Lasts Forever" (an obvious single, if you could take singles from an EP), the songs adapt themselves to a variety of different styles, with the keyboard-led and very Richard Ashcroft title track being a particular and obvious highlight, but other tracks such as "Runaway" with its Sparklehorse evocative wispy vocals, and the euphoric chorus of "Summer Love" show that Waz can be innovative but still consistent. Â Waz's lyrics aren't particularly spectacular, and if there was any weakness, it's his lack of flair with language, but then it presumably ...
