| | Fall Live In Retford '79 CD Fall Discography of CDs
The Fall had only been together a couple of years by the time they recorded this 1979 live set in Retford, but they'd already established one of the most forceful and distinctive aesthetics on the punk scene. Led by Mark E. Smith's literate verbal associations and snarling speak-sing delivery, the band--especially live--was a maelstrom of clanging guitars and stuttering rhythms.
Recorded not long after their landmark live set LIVE AT THE WITCH TRIALS, this performance boasts the Fall incarnation featuring Mark Riley. The Retford set shows the band at their cacophonous, repetitious best as they plow through classics like "Rowche Rumble" and "Psycho Mafia," laying the foundations for their reputation as one of the most uncompromising and challenging bands in rock.
This recording comes from the bands earliest days. At this time the band were only two years old but had already changed line up a number of times something that would become a pattern over the next twenty-five years. On this recording however Mark E Smith did retain the services of Mark Riley. Following the release of the critically well-received "Live At The Witch Trials" album the band quickly recorded a second album Dragnet and on this recording Mark E Smith leads the Fall through a set list that includes material from that album including "Psykick Dancehall", "Choc Stock" and "Printhead". This recording has been remastered for release and will appeal to the large fan base this band commands. Live In Retford '79 Music Fall Live In Retford '79 Songs | 1. | Psykick Dancehall | |

| Fall Complete Peel Sessions 1978-2004 CDs (2005) (Import) Box Set; United Kingdom
Live In Retford '79
$39.39 Work was well underway on The Complete Peel Sessions when the legendary John Peel passed away, so there's some comfort in the thought that the Fall's greatest cheerleader probably got to see and hear some kind of prototype of this incredible box set. He often referred to the band as "the mighty Fall": this box set is the evidence. Collecting all 24 sessions that the edgy, unclassifiable group did for Peel's radio program, this six-CD set is overwhelming and probably too much to digest for newcomers. Listeners who have already absorbed the excellent overview 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong, picked up an album or two, and are up for a challenge should put this set near the top of their list because these sessions usually ran four songs long, forcing the often-wandering and sprawling Fall to cut to the chase if they wanted to make an impact. Despite Mark E. ...

| | Carole King Writer/Rhymes & Reasons CD (2002) Remastered
Live In Retford '79
$12.79 This twofer brings together two albums by the singer-songwriter Carole King-- WRITER, the artist's 1970 debut, and RHYMES & REASONS from 1972.
Carole King's first official solo album and her fourth album, both of which were originally on Ode Records (A&M in England), make an interesting pairing on this European CD release, which combines both on one disc. Writer (1970) dated from the time before King found her defining sound, and is dominated by Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar's electric and acoustic guitars, as well as King's singing, while Rhymes and Reasons (1972) presents King in the midst of her singer/songwriter period, her piano a dominant instrument along with her voice and lyrics. The Writer material is the most diverse, encompassing songs in hard rock, folk, soul, and even country idioms; Rhymes and Reasons, by contrast, marked the end of King's direct stylistic offshoots from Tapestry -- either way, it's all stuff that will delight those filling in her library. One only wishes that the music had been remastered as well (Sony Music has only ever seen fit to upgrade the sound on Tapestry), but neither is bad in the fidelity department, and it's all still a pleasing, occasionally ...
