The second album by SVT is an appealing blast of West Coast new wave, with good songs played with blistering intensity. Unlike many albums from this era, it is more than a period piece, mainly thanks to the quality of the material and performances rather than any particular innovation on the part of the band. What sets SVT apart is the interplay between Brian Marnell's urgent guitar chords, Paul Zahl's hammering percussion, and Jack Casady's rumbling bass. Casady may have been the most famous musician here, but this band was not just his vehicle. It's easy to believe that SVT could have gone on to great things if lead singer and guitarist Marnell hadn't died shortly after the release of this album. Listen to the surf instrumental blast of "North Beach" or the punk-inspired title tune and you'll hear a band that should have been famous. ~ Richard Foss

No Regrets Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) 5 star record destroyed by revisions-HOW DARE U! Did Brian not know how he wanted thisalbum to sound? The original, mixed by the artist nd the band, mastered by the great ear of George Horn, SHIMMERED!It sounded bright and alive as few vinyls did. Paul and Jack's bottom end was great.
Brian's brother and Colla, muted and damped and REPRODUCED A DEAD MAN's ALBUM. They stepped all over the songwriters, my very favorite songwriters' songs.
Brian Marnell was an absolute genius at power pop/punk songwriting.the opening chords of 'bleeding hearts' are SUPPOSED to have shock value- to alarm! then fade into feedback, and like an exciting live rock band (like they were) you hear Paulover the din,"Two, Three, four!" and bam - they're off. But you threw a blanket over it, I can actually hear the nobs being turned down on the chords after they hit-JUST LIKE DRIED UP PARENTS WOULD DO!
I'm so mad I could spit! I was so excited to hear that this cd was coming, and Brian Marnell would finally get his due, only to be sold out by his brother and his pop sellout friend (it's not hip to be square,Johnny).
I lookedto see if Paul or Jack were consulted. I doubt they liked their songs neutered.
If you listen hard, and use what I have said to adjust your ears, you can pick out the geniusof "bleeding..", "heart of..", money street", "love blind", and the glorious chugging of the three on "you don't rock" to close out that young man's rocker legacy. THey all deserve it,(Nick, too, even tho he's only on the CD add ons).
But try like a lifes' mission to find the vinyl- then you'll see.

No Regrets music CDs
$10.19 This is a transitional Al Stewart album. After stretching the boundaries of song length and language with Love Chronicles, he was in a something of a holding pattern on Orange, without any obviously profound inspiration or moments of daring. "Songs Out of Clay," however, does reveal the first signs of the mix of acoustic and electric guitar sounds that he would perfect on his next album, Past, Present and Future, two years later, while "The Fourth of May," a six-minute personal story-song, gets something ...
