Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell star. A handsome carnival newcomer sets out to become a con artist clairvoyant. This relatively little-known film is widely hailed by fans of the macabre. Truly ahead of its time, NIGHTMARE ALLEY is set in the gritty, surrealistic world of traveling carnivals, where eccentric people of all possible varieties interact on a daily basis. In a departure from his usual roles as the Hollywood leading man, handsome Tyrone Power plays a morally questionable circus apprentice determined to climb the carnival ladder no matter what the price. Powers shows immense range in what was arguably his finest role ever as the sometimes unrecognizably scruffy circus man with a liking for the bottle. Director Edmund Goulding (DARK VICTORY) gives the carnival setting a dark, somber feel that contradicts the film's more upbeat ending. In spite of this ending tacked on by the studio system, NIGHTMARE ALLEY remains with the viewer even after it's over, haunting them with its bleak images and melancholy mood. Nightmare Alley Reviews: "ALLEY is strong on atmosphere and performances..."
-- Tim Purtell, Entertainment Weekly "[T]he movie widely regarded as Tyrone Power's acting peak..."-- Mike Clark, USA Today "Director Edmund Goulding's 1947 swirl of shadows and fever is a borderline-insane entry in that strange subgenre, the carny-noir."
-- Damien Love, Uncut "Tyrone Power excels as a cheating scoundrel....It stands up as a particularly seedy and paranoid noir."

$9.69 This classic film noir is considered by many genre aficionados to be one of luminary Robert Siodmak's quintessential works. Burt Lancaster stars as a Steve Thompson, an honest, hardworking armored-truck driver who harbors a fatal love. Despite numerous warnings, He believes he can rescue his double-crossing ex-wife Anna (Yvonne DeCarlo) from the seedy underworld in which she's found herself. When Steve and Anna's tryst is discovered by her current husband (Dan Duryea), they convince the hoodlum that she met with Steve only to get his help in robbing an upcoming payroll shipment. Now the honest Steve must plan a real robbery or die. Featuring the film debut of Tony Curtis, CRISS CROSS is a taut, unforgettable crime-thriller based on a Don Tracy novel that would again be adapted to the screen as Steven Soderbergh's UNDERNEATH (1995).
