| | David Bowie Collection CD David Bowie Discography of CDs
This collection features 12 tracks from 12 different albums and selected by Bowie himself. The tracks are taken from Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station To Station, Low, Heroes, Lodger and Scary Monsters. Included are rare photos and sleeve notes by leading Bowie writer. EMI GOLD. 2005.
This EMI David Bowie set seems like it was compiled by a devoted fan; a fan on intimate terms with the early albums and bent on showing casual listeners "the real Bowie." (Rumor has it, in fact, that Bowie himself picked the 12 cuts here). To wit, COLLECTION sidesteps the mega-hits: "Space Oddity," "Changes," and "Suffragette City" are nowhere to be found. Instead, COLLECTION cherry-picks one track from each of Bowie's albums from SPACE ODDITY to SCARY MONSTERS, and the results play like the world's greatest Bowie mix-tape.
The great protean sprawl of Bowie's best decade can be traced in abbreviated form here with early psychedelic folk-rock ("Unwashed and Somewhat Slightly Dazed"), witty social satire ("Andy Warhol"), groovy glam rock ("Soul Love"), blue-eyed R&B ("Somebody Up There Likes Me"), futuristic avant-pop (Beauty and the Beast"), and streamlined, decade-closing anthems ("Teenage Wildlife"). The songs equal, and in some cases surpass, Bowie's better-known hits, reminding us that he was a first-rate craftsman of brilliant creativity, and that he churned out enough stellar material in the '70s to pack at least two or three more discs like this with hidden treasures.

| | Eyes Of Eden Faith CD (2007)
Collection songs
$13.75 For metalheads, the early to mid-2000s went down in history as a time in which the United States dominated metalcore, hardcore, and screamo while Europe dominated the death metal/black metal field as well as the power metal revival/progressive metal scene. And Europe was equally dominant when it came to goth metal; if, in the early to mid-2000s, one came across a metal band that had strong goth leanings, a definite Lacuna Coil influence, and a female lead singer with an ethereal vocal style, it wasn't necessarily a European band but was likely a European band. Germany's Eyes of Eden, in fact, fit that description to a T on their debut album, Faith. The brains behind this album is producer, guitarist, and songwriter Waldemar Sorychta, who is known for his work with Lacuna Coil, Moonspell, Despair, and Sentenced and is staunchly goth metal-oriented throughout this 45-minute CD (which was recorded from 2004-2006 and released in 2007). The basic idea of goth metal is to combine goth rock's eerie, darkly poetic sense of melody with ...

$17.09 | | Ryan Adams Love Is Hell CD (2004)
Collection CD music
$11.99 LOVE IS HELL includes the EPs LOVE IS HELL PART 1 and PART 2, available together on 1 CD.
The confusing, complex saga of LOVE IS HELL--initially rejected by the label, then begrudgingly issued as two EPs before it finally saw the light of day as a full album--would be just an interesting footnote if not for the shockingly high quality of the material itself. In between his incarnations as alt-country troubadour and Strokes-friendly garage-rocker, Ryan Adams turned out what just might be the best record of his career. A beautiful, bittersweet journey through heartbreak, it's a ballad-heavy album that bears echoes of Jeff Buckley and Britpop acts from the Smiths to Coldplay. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Smiths producer John Porter is on hand to assist the formerly earthy Americana artist in his transition to fragile, ...

| | Pentangle Time Has Come 1967-1973 CDs (2007)
Collection album
$38.09 In 2007, when so many neo-folkies owe the hairs of their scruffy beards to Pentangle, it seems both natural that a box set of the band's work should be released and ironic that for much of the period it covers, they were known to relatively few outside the Brit-folk faithful. A wealth of previously unreleased tracks, including concert recordings, BBC sessions, etc. will be the draw for hardcore fans, but it's the cumulative heft of the band's work as a whole that makes THE TIME HAS COME so weighty.
When Fairport Convention was still messing around with Joni Mitchell songs, Pentangle were transforming British trad folk via blues, jazz, and raga shadings. Covering the entirety of their initial lifespan, TIME lets you hear the interplay between Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's guitars grow in complexity and telepathy, and the jazzy grooves of Terry Cox and Danny Thompson bend with increasing suppleness to support Jacqui McShee's willowy voice. This handsome anthology does double duty as guided tour and collectors' grab bag.
Lavish and definitive 2008 digitally remastered four CD box set covering the six year career of the Jazz/Folk fusion pioneers. The Time Has Come ...
