Bette Davis stars. A woman who marries out of obligation divorces and explores her wild side. Bette Davis portrays a conceited and pompous upper-class woman, from her teen years to middle-age. As this society matron grows older and faces illness, her looks gravely deteriorate, leaving her to wonder if the only man she ever truly loved -- her first husband -- will cherish her once again. The vain and beautiful Fanny marries for money, plays around behind her husband's back and then, finally, divorces him. It isn't until near the end of her lonely life that she discovers love - real love - for the first time. Academy Award Nominations: 2, Best Actress-Bette Davis, Best Supporting Actor--Claude Rains. Mr. Skeffington Reviews: "[The film] boasts a fascinating and bravely unsympathetic turn from Davis as the flirty New York belle with a heart of stone."

Mr. Skeffington Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) FANTASTIC This movie is one of the greatest ever made and so very hard to find. I have been looking for years. This film shows how beauty is only skin deep and love lasts forever. Submitted by mpenske (Canoga Park, CA. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wonderful! This is one of the greatest movies ever made. I have looked all over for this DVD and finally found it. Bravo. I cried my eyes out at the ending. Too bad Hollywood cannot make movies of this calibur anylonger. There is no raw sex scene, nor filthy language, yet this movie will invigorate your brain and break your heart! A shamefully neglected masterpiece I was 11 years old when Mr Skeffington was released in England. Maybe because we were fighting Hitler and hearing of his barbarities, the ending really affected me. But I loved the whole film. I was not a Bette Davis fan but I loved Claude Rains and Walter Abel and I thought their performances were superb. And I had to admit so was Bette. The way the film chronicled her life from emptyheaded flirty flapper through the unpleasant truths of growing older to terrified old age was masterly. Her scene with George Coulouris makes me laugh every time I think of it, especially his final crack that she would be impressed when she got his bill. I thought Claude Rains should have got an Oscar but he was another of those actors who got many nominations but never the statue. Shame. The film has its faults, what film doesnt, but overall I loved every minute of it, and Franz Waxman's score was the icing on the cake.
I may be in a minority, but Mr Skeffington is in my list of 10 favourite movies, along with Casablanca, Laura and Sunset Boulevard. It's all a matter of taste I know, but Gone with the Wind and a load of other blockbusters you can keep I'd prefer to sit through Mr Skeffington any day just for the first class acting and happy memories it brings back. Mr. Skeffington DVD Whose face ravaged, grotesque is in the mirror? Surely it's not that of Fanny Skeffington, the prettiest woman in New York. Fanny always used her beauty to manipulate her way through life. She's encouraged dozens of suitors, even after her marriage. But now diphtheria has robbed her of her only attribute. And without her looks, she's lost. Bette Davis earned her eighth Best Actress Oscar nomination portraying Fanny.

$10.19 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.
Gifted med student Ted Grey (Milo Ventimiglia, HEROES) arrives at a major Washington, D.C., as an intern, where he is met with suspicion and resentment by the tightly knit group of fellow young pathologists-in-training. Soon, though, Ted is accepted into their circle---where they each take turns committing a murder so that the others may prove their mettle by figuring out the cause of death and celebrate with drug-fueled orgies among the dead bodies in the hospital. Things change for Ted, though, when his law student fiancée, Gwen (Alyssa Milano), moves to the city and helps to scare him straight. Soon, crazed Wallace Stevens-quoting leader Jake Gallo ...

$13.55 Marcel Langenegger makes his feature-film directorial debut with the aptly titled DECEPTION, a film about secrets and lies. Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) feels that life is passing him by. $13.59 This bizarre hybrid of the road, ghost, and sex genres tells the tale of Tsutomu, who pays a visit to a couple of friends, then disappears after one night. The couple set out to find Tsutomu, and along the way, they encounter another couple filming themselves having sex outdoors. The four then continue to search for Tsutomu, which brings a startling revelation, bringing them all closer together. This oddball example of Japanese "Pink" cinema is definitely not for children, or those whose tastes run toward the ordinary.
