med davis revealed - excellent This CD is awesome. If you love jazz, you'll love this CD. Submitted by April (Clifton, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Jazz on a different level!!! Mel smokes on the organ - makes the organ talk...his left hand base is incredible, you think you are listening to a bass guitar...just can't make up my mind as to which track is my favorite, 'real mother for ya;' 'smooth operator;' 'hole in the wall;' or 'the next level.' Mel Davis is certainly 'revealed!'

As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, Oliver digs ...

Revealed
$9.39 Funk Inc. includes: Eugene Barr, Bobby Watley, Steve Weakley, Jimmy Munford, Cecil Hunt. Recorded in 1971-72. In the 1990s, the popularity of acid jazz (especially in the U.K.) was great news for fans of Funk, Inc., whose 1970s Prestige dates had long been out of print. England's Ace label reissued all five of Funk's Prestige albums on CD, and in 1995, Fantasy combined the organ combo's first two albums, Funk, Inc. (1971) and Chicken Lickin' (1972), on this excellent 70-minute CD. When they first came out, both albums received their share of negative reviews from the more dogmatic jazz critics, who hated the idea of combining jazz with funk and soul. But the fact is that this ...

From his Mothers of Invention days onward, Frank Zappa often used jazzy multi-part arrangements that in some ways could have been regarded as avant-garde extensions of the big-band style. Of course, there was a lot of non-jazz involved in what Zappa composed and performed, and even his jazziest outings had some outrageous touches that would be found in few if any big-band arrangements from any era. It's to their credit, however, that the Ed Palermo Big Band ...
