The fullness of this duet album's sound suffers only slightly from the lack of a drummer, compensating with deeply satisfying intuitive interplay between pianist Evans and longtime collaborator Gomez. Evans experiments on INTUITION with the electric Fender-Rhodes piano ...

$6.59 | | Miles Davis Kind Of Blue CD (1959) Bonus Track; Remastered
Russian Romantic Songs / Kaia Urb, Heiki Mätlik
$6.29 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF ...

$13.45 | | Unforgettable Love Songs: The Best Of Emile Pandolfi Volume 3. CD (1998)
Russian Romantic Songs / Kaia Urb, Heiki Mätlik
$12.59 A poet of popular music, November 1, 2005 Emile Pandolfi plays show tunes, movie music, and the Great American Song Book, like no one else. He even includes the occasional classical selection, which is inevitable, as he is a classically trained artist in the traditional sense. Pandolfi's dexterity at the keyboard is highly polished; yet one hardly notices. One does notice his gorgeous tone, which seemingly knows no depth; his pianissimo playing, which I can tell you, reaches all the way to the back of the hall; his massive fortissimos, which always leave the impression that he has more to give; his melting legato touch, which makes the piano sound like anything but a percussive instrument; and his seemingly limitless imagination. Once you've heard Pandolfi's presentation of a song, it will be difficult for you to imagine it any other way. Partly, this results from his own imagination: he is able to listen to music and lyrics with such freshness, even to the punctuation of lyrics, that he understands what many of us pass over. Then, he brings the resources of his technique, his sound-all his musical training and experience-to bear on the story in his mind. But not just the story: the character of the story, the atmosphere of the story. The result is nothing short of a recreation of each song Emile Pandolfi plays, and that result is often very powerful. John PendleyAbout the Artist Critics call Emile Pandolfi's music "luxurious arrangements with an ethereal quality;" that he plays in a "free-flowing, emotional manner that seems to go to the music's very soul." (Stereophile Magazine) While keeping the melody uppermost, this solo pianist applies his classical technique to Broadway and Popular Music alike, all in addition to his classical performance. This unique mixture of passion and elegance has resulted in making him one of the top selling artists in the alternative market.Classically trained since the age of five, Pandolfi took a road-less-traveled by most serious artists and created his own inspiring arrangements of Popular Music. He began recording them in 1991, and has accumulated a catalog of 25 different albums and compilations.Without a doubt, when you hear the music of Emile Pandolfi, you will experience the heart and soul of one of todays finest pianists. | | Sympathetic Sounds Of Detroit CD (2001)
Russian Romantic Songs / Kaia Urb, Heiki Mätlik
$10.59 Though released in 2001, the unique Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit compilation could've been recorded in the mid-'60s to early '70s; it's pure early rock/R&B from the heart of Detroit. Produced and laid to eight-track by none other than Jack White of the White Stripes, all 13 bands used the same microphones and amps in the same room to create this slice of retro-underground rock. Some of these groups have independent full-length releases, such as the Hentchmen, whose song "Accusatory" is an organ-stomping, frat rock romp. The White Stripes themselves contribute a great up-tempo song entitled "Red Death at 6:14," with their urgent modern take on the blues. There are plenty of highlights, including Ko the Knockouts' "Black & Blue," reminiscent of a revenge-oriented Leslie Gore tune, and Bantam Rooster's punchy crunch on "Run Rabbit Run." The Soledad Brothers offer up a Chicago-style, harmonica-laced blues number called "Shaky Puddin'," and Mick Collins, formerly of the Gories and later of the Dirtbombs, helps out on the insightful "I'm Through With White Girls." Other standouts are the Paybacks' opening track, as well as the piano boogie of "Shout Bama Lama" ...

Russian Romantic Songs / Kaia Urb, Heiki Mätlik
$7.35 John De Haan, a classically trained tenor, ambitiously tackles both jazz works and concert music written by the legendary Dave Brubeck. Brubeck, who has rarely accompanied vocalists on piano without a small group or an orchestra, is masterful with his backing of De Haan on the first seven selections, as are the pieces themselves. But De Haan fails to realize that an opera singer has to approach jazz vehicles from a different perspective, as a result, he often comes across sounding rather pompous, ...
