Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Classic metal becomes an educational tool with GETTYSBURG, Iced Earth helmsman Jon Schaffer's paean to the bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil. Schaffer blends his passions for metal and history, hoping to engender in the younger generations a taste for knowledge with his ambitious concept album. Volume I of this double release unfolds in three chapters: "The Devil to Pay," "Hold at all Costs," and "High Water Mark;" each combines images and music to tell the story of the pivotal battle of July, 1863. Each volume also contains a 50-minute interview with Schaffer, during which he discusses his views on the complex historical event of Gettysburg, as well as the paltry state of the current educational system, which leaves children ignorant of many monumental aspects of history. Also included is a photo gallery and additional versions of the songs, rendering this a significant release, and in many respects, a true historical epic told through innovative metal music.

Gettysburg Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Stunning! I am not a big Metal fan and did not follow Iced Earth as a band, but I am a Civil War enthusiast and a rock fan. This DVD is outstanding! The history of Gettysburg is told and the music is tremendous. This is put together very well. If you are a rock fan and a history buff I highly recommend this DVD. GREAT, BUT LACKING LIVE FOOTAGE!!! This is a great DVD, but i would have loved to see some live concert footage with then new singer Tim Owens. It's a shame that John Schaffer let Tim go. In my opinion, they lost the best singer they will ever have had. Ripper Owens' vocals are amazing on the epic 32 minute Gettysberg song. Ad an amazing slideshow of the historic battle put together by John Schaffer, this title gets 4 stars!!! Submitted by robprovenzano (Bridgeport, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
They could have added more. I love the new cd "The Glorious Burden" I have been familiar with this band ever since I copied a freind's "Night of The Stormrider" tape which he found in the discount bin at Camelot.Iced Earth has gone through many vocalists, but they hit the jackpot when they got Tim Owens to be their frontman. He fits in better with Iced Earth than he did with Judas Priest. My only dissapointment with the dvd is that it should have included more music in addition to the interviews and the visit to the battlefield. An extra dvd featuring live performances from "The Glorious Burden World Tour" would have made it worth the price of admission alone. And to sweeten the deal, they could have closed the show with a couple of priest encores since they've got "The Ripper" in the band. Gettysburg video
$9.99 It took eight years, but the trilogy that started with 1997's ACCIDENT OF BIRTH and continued with 1998's THE CHEMICAL WEDDING is finally complete with the release of 2005's TYRANNY OF SOULS. Dickinson once again collaborates with guitarist and producer Roy Z, with whom he has an almost telepathic relationship. That comes in handy when writing an album together while thousands of miles apart, Z at home in Los Angeles and Dickinson on tour with Iron Maiden. Working only with a tape of Z's guitar parts, Dickinson composed lyrics based on some of his favorite subjects: science fiction ("Soul Intruders"), space ("River of No Return"), and flying ("Kill Devil Hill").
TYRANNY OF SOULS is full of Z's signature layered guitars, as heavy as they are melodic and intricate. "Abduction" and "Soul Intruders" open with retro thrash riffs and feature blindingly fast solos. No Dickinson album would be complete without a history lesson, included here in "Kill Devil Hill," the story of the Wright Brothers' first flight. At the midpoint of the record, "Navigate the Seas of the Sun" revisits the subtle acoustic vibe of 1994's "Tears of the Dragon," the song that originally brought Z and Dickinson together.

| | Demons & Wizards Touched By The Crimson King CD (2005) Bonus Tracks
Gettysburg film
$14.25 In the early '80s, a style of heavy metal was fast rising, in which groups sang about (and even to a point, dressed like) characters from an era long ago, in which gentlemen dressed in armor, and saved damsels in distress in tall castles. While some of these groups built a long-term career (Dio, Iron Maiden, etc.), many fell by the wayside as the style faded away, and was replaced by thrash and glam metal acts. By the early '90s, some of the music from these earlier bands could be detected in such new acts as Dream Theater and Iced Earth, who also pushed the 'technicality' of their music up a notch. Fast-forward another ten years to the early 2000s, and there is a new crop of bands that combine both of these metal eras together, especially by the prog metal "supergroup" Demons & Wizards. Comprised of Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer and Blind Guardian's Hansi Kürsch, the duo issued their second album in 2005, Touched by the Crimson King. Picture a modern metal soundtrack accompanying a triumphant ride through a forest on horseback, and you have an idea of what such songs as "Crimson King" and "Terror Train" sound like, as well as the album-closing cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." But not all of Crimson King is riff-based, as evidenced by the tranquil ending of "Beneath These Waves" and the beginning of "The Gunslinger." But by and large, Touched by the Crimson King is a modern-day prog metal fan's dream. ~ Greg Prato

| | Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story DVD (2004) Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
Gettysburg review
$10.49 In DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up once again (following STARSKY & HUTCH) for another comic romp. While hilariously satirizing modern-day gym culture, the film also celebrates a sport that has previously been relegated to the elementary school playground. Peter La Fleur (Vaughn) owns the decrepit Average Joe's gym, which has been losing its clients ever since the glitzy Globo Gym opened up across the street. White Goodman (Stiller), Globo Gym's main spokesman, is a preposterously vain egomaniac on the cusp of taking over La Fleur's failing business. La Fleur learns from a beautiful attorney (Christine Taylor) that if he doesn't come up with $50,000 in 30 days, his career running a gym will be over. Potential salvation arrives in the form of a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament, but conquering a sport one hasn't played in several decades isn't such an easy feat. Fortunately for Peter, he finds a coach for his team: the hardheaded, ex-superstar Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn). As Peter and his ragtag team make their way to the championship in Las Vegas, they must contend with White, who has ...
