$11.99 (MP3 Available for Download) After helping lay the groundwork for concept albums and progressive rock with 1967's orchestra-enhanced suite DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moodies retrenched for the follow-up. They abandoned the orchestra but kept their sound as rich as before by playing a multitude of instruments themselves, including everything from sitar to cello to oboe. At the time, it was remarkable enough for these instruments to appear on a rock record, much less to be played by the band itself. The string-laden conceptual pieces of DAYS were replaced by shorter, more concise songs that leaned more toward Beatlesque pop and displayed a pronounced ...

Highlights From Shades Of Green (Concert-Live) CD music
$11.59 (MP3 Available for Download) With Compathia, Ben Chasny takes Six Organs of Admittance further in the direction of "songs" in the traditional sense (as opposed to extended, largely instrumental, raga-like jams). Assuredly, these aren't pop songs, but they are, most definitely, songs. With Dark Noontide, Six Organs' previous effort, Chasny's folky eastern melodies were balanced by his chant-like moan. But with Compathia, he sings on every track save one, the brief title track (which functions as a beautiful instrumental breather mid-album). His voice is also noticeably pushed forward in the mix, and the songs themselves are less cluttered by percussion and other instruments, further emphasizing ...

| | Rumba Catalan CD (2003)
Highlights From Shades Of Green (Concert-Live) CD music
$22.09 Rumba Catalan is a compilation of just that: the contemporary forms of rhumba incorporated into flamenco and then moved to Barcelona for an urban sound with added influence from gypsy groups. As such, the sound is decidedly more urban than the majority of flamenco music, sounding much more Caribbean from time to time, and rarely with any of the seriousness of flamenco's song. The album opens up with a chorus sounding vaguely similar to the "We Are the World" party, followed by some energetic flamenco updated with island percussion ideas and horn sections from both Guadaljarafe and Sinay. Another chorus sings of their migration from Andalusia to Catalan (Barcelona), followed by the thoroughly Cuban sound of Vaya Cruz. Banis continues the Cuban sound, and Algarabia provides a softer, synth-driven sound with more of the traditional flamenco aesthetic embedded within. The now-retired Conchita shows off her formidably ...
