Zoot Money's debut LP, released on EMI's Columbia label in 1965, represents a side of the British Invasion that never quite took hold on U.S. shores -- steeped in American R&B but offering a sextet's attack on saxes and organ, theirs wasn't enough of a guitar-oriented sound to get a fair hearing in the U.S., though the guitarist here is Andy Somers (aka Andy Summers, who takes a hot solo on "Along Came John"). That doesn't mean it's not worth hearing, even 40 years later -- the renditions of numbers written by or associated with James Brown ("I'll Go Crazy"), Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson ("Back Door Blues"), et al., knocked off in a single day's recording, is superb R&B regardless of its point of origin, and might even (and might still) turn a head or two. The big surprise, however, may be the gently swinging reinterpretation of Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Rock and Roller," which manages to successfully straddle a couple of major music stylistic eras. And the Paul Williams-sung "Rags and Old Iron" is a dark, brilliant blues showcase for saxman Clive Burrows and Money's organ, as well as Williams' pipes. ~ Bruce Eder

| It Should've Been Me Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Overlooked Masterpiece of 60s British R&B Well-known among the British Invasion R&B groups are the Stones, Animals and Yardbirds. Far less known are groups like Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, The Graham Bond Organization, and Zoot Money & The Big Roll Band. Each of these groups provided the initial launch of later stars. Of the three, Zoot Money's band is perhaps least known, but probably the most interesting. The energy he brings to a relatively familiar repertoire of American R&B songs is infectious, as can be heard on this, his first, album.(Note: Like Bond he also moved from DECCA to EMI after a few less auspicious recordings.)Finally legally available on CD, this disc features two versions of the title track (the second an alternate take originally on a rare compilation EP), and a wealth of other classics. Although one might argue the Zoot was best when heard live, there is no doubt that he was able to translate the enthusiasm and spirit of his live shows into the studio. This is definitely a "must have" for anyone interested in the British music scene on the mid-60s. Submitted by dolmetsc (Hurricane, WV, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

It Should've Been Me album
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled all of Otis' Excelsior recordings, made in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1947. This ...

It Should've Been Me songs
$9.95 Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, ...

| | Elvis Presley Country Side Of Elvis CDs (2001) Remastered
It Should've Been Me songs
$25.39 If you like your Elvis with a heavy dose of schmaltz, then this Australian-only release is right up your alley. It's 25 of Elvis' country-oriented recordings, with all of the early '50s sides for Sun and RCA deleted from the set. What's left are movie leftovers, album cuts, and B-sides from 1961 to near the end, all of them slickly produced, with most of them sporting a slick Nashville sound. Although the notes go into great detail about Elvis' country roots, this isn't the place to hear him as a hillbilly singer; go to his original Sun sides to hear the real Elvis, country boy at heart. ~ Cub Koda
This classy, 51-track reissue featuring Elvis' country-styled tunes through his entire career starts promisingly enough with the early Sun sides from 1954, including his version of Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky." But like the artist himself, it dissipates disappointingly as the years progress. Elvis' almost universal appeal was grounded in how effectively he mixed blues, gospel, and classic vocal pop ...

$15.09 Grave Forsaken is a heavy thrash band with influences from all kinds of classic metal styles. Formed in 2004, the Warriors of Light are now celebrating a solid 3-year history. In 2005, Grave Forsaken recorded a demo EP (self-titled), which was released independently to a welcoming audience. The early death metal influences seen on the EP soon began to take on a sharper sound as the band played a number of local gigs and wrote new material. In 2006, the album "Beside The River Of Blood" was released, having been signed to Rowe Productions even before it was completed. Tracks such as "Buried Alive" and "Harder To Hate" featured on the album, receiving high praise from both fans and critics. The band have made it clear that they're not only a thrash band, also venturing into death and doom metal territory with tracks like "Tribulation Cometh" and "The Celebrity Judge And The Sinners, Part I."In 2007, Grave Forsaken appeared in Heaven's Metal Magazine, ...
