Acrobat continues their series highlighting the American Juke Box/Harlem Hit Parade/Race Record/Rhythm & Blues chart hits by a selection of the biggest stars of the 1940s and 1950s swing, jazz, jump blues and R&B scenes. Most of these performers have never had their biggest hits compiled in one place. Eckstine was one of the most revered balladeers of the first half of the 20th Century and although collected here are most of his greatest hits, there were in fact many more that were hugely popular before sales charts were prominent. This features all the 78s and or 45s that were money-spinners on jukeboxes across the world. 2005. Jukebox Hits 1943-1953 Music Jukebox Hits 1943-1953 Review

| | Ray Davies Kinks Choral Collection CD (2009) (Import) United Kingdom
Jukebox Hits 1943-1953
$15.85 2009 release from legendary British Rock icon Ray Davies, who returns with all your favorite Kinks songs backed by the spectacular Crouch End Festival Chorus. Singer/songwriter Davies fronted The Kinks from their inception in the '60s until their dissolution three decades later in the early '90s (although there have been hints of a reunion in recent years). This must-have album includes brand new renditions of 15 Kinks klassics including `Waterloo Sunset', `You Really Got Me', `All Day and All of the Night, `Shangri-La', `Victoria' and many more phenomenal tunes. Decca.
Photographer: Sam Seager. Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some ...

| | Mahavishnu Orchestra Between Nothingness & Eternity CD (1974)
Jukebox Hits 1943-1953
$5.95 The first Mahavishnu Orchestra's original very slim catalog was padded out somewhat by this live album (recorded in New York's Central Park) on which the five jazz/rock virtuosos can be heard stretching out at greater length than in the studio. There are only three selections on the disc, all of which were to have been on the group's then-unissued third album -- two of them, guitarist John McLaughlin's "Trilogy: Sunlit Path/La Merede la Mer" and keyboardist Jan Hammer's "Sister Andrea," are proportioned roughly as they were in their studio renditions, while the third, McLaughlin's "Dream," is stretched to nearly double its 11-minute studio length. Each develops organically through a number of sections, and there are fewer lockstep unison passages than on the earlier recordings. McLaughlin is as flashy and noisy as ever on double-necked electric guitar, and Hammer and violinist Jerry Goodman are a match for him in the speed department, with drummer Billy Cobham displaying a compelling, ...
