B.B. King One Kind Favor CD (2008) Top Seller
Memphis Horns CD music Though he's created some of the most essential, elemental blues in musical history, B.B. King has never shied away from exploring different directions, and some might say he's occasionally ventured too far afield. ONE KIND FAVOR should silence those doubters; with the help of superproducer T-Bone Burnett's roots noir approach, it finds King delivering gritty, impassioned interpretations of the tunes that influenced him in the 1950s. From his soulful, syncopated take on Blind Lemon Jefferson's country blues classic "See That My Grave is Kept Clean" to the Chicago-style stomping takeover of the Mississippi Sheiks' "The World Is Gone Wrong," King proves that at the age of 82 he can still turn out fiery, energetic music as undeniably vital as anything ...

Gov't Mule High & Mighty CD (2006)
Memphis Horns songs The second studio album to feature the revamped Gov't Mule lineup, 2006's HIGH & MIGHTY finds the adventurous Southern rock quartet breaking into a confident new stride. As always, vocalist/guitarist Warren Haynes's soulful singing and blistering slide work lead the way, as the rest of the band intuitively fill out his compositions with impressive rhythmic and melodic flourishes. Although the fierce opening track, "Mr. High & Mighty," may have listeners thinking Gov't Mule has morphed into a straight-up hard-rock act, other songs delve into reggae ("Unring the Bell") and gospel-tinged blues ("Million Miles from Yesterday"), revealing that the ensemble remains as eclectic as ever.

Bettye Lavette I've Got My Own Hell to Raise CD (2005) Top Seller

Gov't Mule Mighty High CD (2007)
Memphis Horns buy CD music With a title that nods to the previous Gov't Mule release, HIGH & MIGHTY, this 2007 collection presents reggae & dub versions of tunes from the Southern rock band's earlier outings. While this may seem like a bizarre curveball to some Mule fans, the ever-adventurous group has ventured into this territory before, specifically on "Unring the Bell" from the aforementioned record, which appears in altered form as both the echo-laden "Unblow Your Horn" and the snarling "Unthrow That Spear," featuring vocalist Michael Franti. Though Warren Haynes's guitar heroics are significantly downplayed on this outing, MIGHTY HIGH proudly upholds Gov't Mule's bold eclecticism, making it a worthy, if not essential, album for the lauded act's legion of admirers.
Gov't Mule: Warren Haynes (vocals, guitar); Danny Louis (guitar, trumpet, keyboards); Andy Hess (bass guitar); Matt Abts (drums, percussion).
Personnel: Gordie Johnson (guitar); Jenny Hill (saxophone); Pamela Fleming (trumpet); Buford O'Sullivan (trombone); Machan Caswell, Elaine Caswell (background vocals).
Additional personnel: Michael Franti, Toots Hibbert, Willi Williams (vocals).

Bettye Lavette Take Another Little Piece of My Heart CD (2006)
Memphis Horns album for sale It may be that after her 2005 album I'VE GOT MY OWN HELL TO RAISE garnered considerable critical attention Bettye Lavette's early work will finally get the recognition it deserves. The CD reissue of this collection of tracks Lavette cut in Memphis during 1969 and '70 is certainly a step in the right direction.
Nothing lacks on TAKE ANOTHER LITTLE PIECE OF MY HEART, from the choice of material (title song included), to the Dixie Flyers' punchy back-up, to Lavette's own impassioned performances. Her two duets with Hank Ballard are stand-outs, but this is Lavette's show from start to finish, and this superb collection amounts to nothing less than a genuine R&B classic.
Recording information: Sounds Of Memphis Studios.
Personnel: Bettye LaVette (vocals); Hank Ballard (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Bill Dahl.
