| | Devo Live 1980 CD Devo Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
There's no denying that Devo was one of the greatest live bands to emerge from the "new wave era," as their quirky sense of humor translated perfectly to the stage, with a variety of props, costumes, and projection screens. For visual proof once and for all, all you have to do is check out the 2005 CD/DVD dual disc Live 1980. Recorded at a show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, CA (just before "Whip It" and Freedom of Choice raced up the charts), this complete-set, pro-shot performance features surprisingly strong sound and picture -- something that bootleg collectors will agree is becoming increasingly hard to find from the pre-MTV era. This is the Devo period right before they became perhaps a bit too obsessed with electronics (1982's Oh, No! It's Devo, 1984's Shout, etc.), as the quintet appears to be at its in-concert peak throughout. With only three albums of material to choose from at this point, there are quite a few interesting tracks that will be of interest to hardcore fans: "S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain)," "Secret Agent Man," "Be Stiff." That said, all the pre-1981 Devo classics are here as well: "Whip It," "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Freedom of Choice," "Jocko Homo," "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA." Out of the various live Devo DVDs out on the market, Live 1980 is by far the best yet. An essential purchase for both spuds and new wave revivalists. ~ Greg Prato

Live 1980 album
$5.99 Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch (Digiprep).
Released only months after RAMONES, the Ramones' second album pales slightly in comparison to its stone-classic predecessor--but only slightly. LEAVE HOME contains enough all-time Ramones anthems--"Commando," "Pinhead" (which introduces the legendary "Gabba Gabba Hey" chant), and "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment," ...
| | Ramones Subterranean Jungle CD (1983) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Live 1980 CD music
$8.39 The early '80s found the Ramones in a quandary. Critics charged them with not expanding their horizons beyond their usual axis of songs about girls, punk rock, and mutants. A new breed of more aggressive hardcore bands raised on the Ramones' sound were challenging them for the fastest-loudest crown. Personal problems (drummer Marky was to exit rancorously shortly after the album's release) were further wrenches in the machinery. Thus, when SUBTERRANEAN JUNGLE ...

| | Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads CDs (1982) Bonus Tracks
Live 1980 album
$19.19 This live album was originally released as a double LP in 1982, when the Talking Heads were still extremely active. Twenty-two years later, the bonus-laden, two-CD reissue serves as a fascinating in-concert document of the phases the band went through during its first five years. The late-'70s tracks on the first disc show the early version of the band in all its geeky glory, mixing spastic New Wave quirkiness, funk rhythms, and art-school lyrics. It's intriguing to hear the ...

| | Rachid Taha Tekitoi (Who Are You?) CD (2005)
Live 1980 album
$14.55 Taha's fifth solo album asks the question T'es Qui Toi: Who Are You?. This is his exploration of himself through his sound. The answer to the question? Liberal doses of Algerian chaabi and rai, French aesthetics, Arabic lyrics. On the musical side alone, this is an astounding album, moving from French banter to a cover of "Rock the Casbah" with a different message in the lyrics back into Taha's bread and butter with Arabic-infused rock. The rock slams as hard or harder than even big hits from Made in Medina. Also though, softer sides are explored a bit with love songs, complete with a female backing chorus and something of an underground hip-hop groove. Every aspect of his music previously visited in earlier albums is taken up again here with more energy, more raw power. The album is arguably one of the top releases of the year in any genre. Taha is certainly one of a handful of artists who deserves wider exposure than he receives, especially in U.S. markets. This album would make a welcome introduction for curious newcomers and an excellent addition for fans of the contemporary Algerian master. Additionally included is the DVD of a Mexican tour, with bits of concert footage, soundchecks, interviews with bandmembers, a massive number of press ...
