'Glory Be Thy Name' was released in Japan during November 2004, but reached Europe last month, and the Japanese Metal fans loves it, it has become pretty huge over there, and that's a sign we should keep in mind here. And after the first listening, I pretty much understand the Japanese's. First of all I have to say the music, the MeloDeath mixed with Power and Neoclassic is a great mix (even if it's loosing some strength against the end), and second Christian's very special voice, I do understand the Japanese's perfectly here. Unfortunately I think the material is a bit weak throughout the whole records to make it a larger hit here in Europe, but it should at least be an album that's ranked high by the press and it should sell descent too. Glory Thy Name
$17.65 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange ...
| | Judas Priest Concert Classics CD (2009) Reissue
Glory Thy Name
$11.18 There was a time when British Steel was the hottest, hardest, and most awesome substance on the planet. On Judas Priest "Concert Classics", here it is, in its most appropriate circumstances: live, on stage. Judas Priest re-invented heavy metal. The first band to use the twin-guitar attack, they ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Glory Thy Name
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious pieces such as "Stand," which employs a Motown-influenced chorus ...

| | Avoid One Thing CD (2002)
Glory Thy Name
$11.85 Let's see...it's not punk-pop, it's not hardcore, it's not power pop. Well, gosh, it must be...rock & roll! How about that. Avoid One Thing is kind of an alt-rock supergroup, containing as it does current and former members of Gang Green, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Raging Teens, Pilfers, and Spring Heeled Jack (the ska band, not the electronica duo). But they wear their professionalism lightly on their debut album, contenting themselves with laying down big, meaty slabs of highly satisfying, ...

Glory Thy Name
$9.85 They never broke through beyond a tiny but devoted audience, but the short-lived dream pop outfit Denali released two swell albums' worth of moody, trip-hop-influenced indie rock that flirted with Fugazi-style post-hardcore. Happily, the new trio Glös is in many ways a Denali reunion, but with its power balance shifted: the key figures in this band are multi-instrumentalist songwriters Keeley Davis (who'd played synth in Denali) and Cornbread Compton (Davis' partner in the late emo stalwarts Engine Down), with Denali's lead singer and prime ...
