Ghost In A Spitfire album
$9.69 Pete Anderson's third solo outing has been a long time coming, and one gets the distinct impression that it's the album he's been itching to make all along. Given that Daredevil is completely instrumental, the guitar geeks already have something to salivate about. But there's much more to it than that. Anderson played the vast majority of instruments, with help in a few places from multi-instrumentalist Skip Edwards and minimal assistance from trumpeter Lee Thornberg and fiddler Donny Reed as well. There's also some string work performed by some mysterious entity know as "the Skipper." If the Latin Playboys were an instrumental country band, they would almost certainly sound something like this. While it's true that Anderson's guitaristry is signature to all he does, he understands dynamic, rhythm, and atmosphere and texture as well. Check the beautifully warm and silvery "My Little Angel," with Thornberg's English ...

Country, rock, and R&B share a remarkable number of attributes, not surprising given that all fuse such diverse Southern music styles as gospel, blues, and English ballads. An effort to bring these modern pop styles together was inevitable, especially during the 60's, a fertile period of musical experimentation. ...
| | Black Sabbath Mob Rules CD (1981) Import; Remastered
Ghost In A Spitfire CD music
$14.79 Black Sabbath had put itself back on track both musically and commercially with the 1980 album HEAVEN AND HELL, as the addition of new vocalist Ronnie James Dio was the shot in the arm Sabbath needed. A follow-up was released one year later, MOB RULES, which follows in the same mega-decibel approach as its predecessor. While it is still a vast improvement over Sabbath's final two albums with Ozzy Osbourne (1976's TECHNICAL ECSTASY and 1978's NEVER SAY DIE), it doesn't exactly match the inspired performances and top compositions featured on HEAVEN AND HELL.
The opening track, "Turn Up the Night," kicks off the album with a jolt of electricity, while other hard rocking highlights include the mid-paced "Voodoo" and the raging ...
| | Eurythmics Be Yourself Tonight CD (1985) Bonus Tracks; Reissue; Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Ghost In A Spitfire music CDs
$7.69 This album replays like a greatest hits package, such is the content of full-blown memorable pop songs. The list is almost endless as this album is a chilling reminder of how good pop can be and how well Lennox and Stewart worked together. Even without the legendary Aretha Franklin on "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves" there is the pace and guts of "I Love You Like A Ball And Chain' or the numerous confessional "I'll be's" of "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)". This album stands up to repeated plays and will continue to improve with age. What perfection.
On Be Yourself Tonight, the Eurythmics' most commercially successful and hit-laden album, the duo meticulously blended the new wave and electronic elements that dominated their previous sets with the harder straight-edged rock and soul that would dominate later sets, resulting in a nearly perfect pop album. This disc scored no less than four hit singles and kept them a mainstay on MTV's play lists during the channel's heyday. Fusing pop, soul, rock, electronic beats, and even gospel, this is arguably the duo's finest moment. The first hit, "Would I Lie to You," is a straightforward rocker, complete with great guitar licks, a soulful horn section, and Annie Lennox sounding as vicious and vivacious as ever. The second single, which was a huge chart-topper in Europe, "There Must Be an Angel," is nothing short of shimmering beauty, with Lennox providing truly angelic vocals and Stevie Wonder adding an enchanting harmonica solo. Aretha Franklin lends her powerhouse pipes for the duet "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves," which has gone on to become an immortal feminist anthem. From the soulful electronic beats (a rarity) in "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" to the beauty of the Elvis Costello duet "Adrian" to the pain and longing of the sorrowful rocker "Better to Have Lost in Love (Than Never to Have Loved at All)," this album runs through a wide array of musical styles, with each song standing tall on its own two feet. This disc is, without a doubt, one of the best pop/rock albums from the 1980s and one of the grandest, most creative albums delivered ...
