| | Prince Dirty Mind CD - Import Prince Discography of CDs
2005 Japanese standard jewel case pressing of Prince's 1980 album. Features the same tracks and mastering as the US edition but includes an OBI and Japanese/English insert. Warner. 2005.
DIRTY MIND is the most focused and uncompromising of Prince's early albums. In 1980, the Purple one wasn't a superstar, he was an undeniably gifted weirdo, sort of a funk/R&B Todd Rundgren, composing, performing and producing everything himself. His singular vision combined a driving, spare R&B style driven by danceable drum machines, funk guitar and colorful synths, (a palpable new wave influence is also at work here) with a near-scandalous attitude towards sex. The unprecedently graphic lyrics of tunes like "Head" and "Sister" make rock & roll rebels of the past decades look like uptight puritans. Prince hadn't yet developed the panoramic production style that would define his greatest '80s album, but this leaner, more direct sound suits the visceral material well.
Personnel: Prince (vocals, various instruments); Lisa Coleman (vocals); "Dr." Matt Fink (synthesizer); Bobby Z (drums); Dez Dickerson, Andre Cymone.
Rolling Stone (November 1989) - Ranked # 18 in Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums Of The 80s" survey. Q - 5 Stars - Indispensable Vibe (2/02, p.87) - Included in Vibe's "Essential Black Rock Recordings". Dirty Mind Review

Dirty Mind album
$10.79 The shows comprising LIVE! AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM were Marvin Gaye's first London concerts in a decade due to his fear of flying. This overseas layoff did nothing to douse Gaye's magical live presence as he performed a set of songs spanning his career. On LIVE! the debonaire singer charms the audience and peppers the early part of this set with some of his more sensual material including "Since I Had You," "Come Get To This" and "Let's Get It On."
The bulk of LIVE! is divided between three medleys. The first consists of material from his solo '60s period and features "Ain't That Peculiar," "Pride And Joy" and "Hitchhike." ...
| | Sheryl Crow CD (1996)
Dirty Mind CD music
$12.59 "If It Makes You Happy" won a 1997 Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
"Everyday Is A Winding Road" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Record Of The Year.
Since crashing the gates with 1993's TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB, Sheryl Crow's brand of melodic pop has won her some Grammys and kept her constantly on the road. On the followup album, the one-time background singer retains her sweet delivery laced with gruff edges, while painting her sunny sound with darker shadings. Quirky characters and situations continue to inhabit Crow's songs, whether it's holy rollers and government conspirators ("Maybe Angels") or a homeless evangelist proselytizing outside a supermarket ("Hard To Make A Stand").
While Crow could easily content herself by writing about assorted oddballs, real-life manifests itself assuredly on SHERYL CROW. Her trip to entertain troops in war-torn Bosnia is reflected in the wasted virtues and exploding shells of "Redemption Day." And in "Love Is A Good Thing," she ...
| | Don Henley I Can't Stand Still CD (1982)
Dirty Mind music CDs
$6.85 Don Henley's first solo album may still have had the ghost of the Eagles lingering in the corners, but for the most part it showcases his stalwart partnership with producer and songwriter Danny Kortchmar. Lyrically, Henley's songs are a tad weak, but for an inaugural album from a man who had spent most of his career surrounded by multi-talented musicians and writers, on the whole it fairs quite well. His material deals with the hardships of love, the fickleness of the media, and the declining state of education, all induced with a friendly pop sound. The title track, a trouble-in-paradise love song, has Henley pouring his heart out with sugary angst, but is helped along with some avid keyboard work. "Dirty Laundry" is Henley's attack on the shallowness of the network newsperson that peaked at number three on Billboard's ...
| | Lindsey Buckingham Out Of The Cradle CD (1992)
Dirty Mind songs
$5.99 Featuring the impossibly catchy hit, "Countdown," Lindsey Buckingham's third solo release, 1992's OUT OF THE CRADLE, includes 14 songs, along with two short, but notable, guitar instrumentals. Buckingham is often lauded as a writer of tart pop confection, but OUT OF THE CRADLE also showcases ...

| | Alan Parsons I Robot CD (1977) Bonus Tracks
Dirty Mind CD music
$6.75 Alan Parsons delivered a detailed blueprint for his Project on their 1975 debut, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, but it was on its 1977 follow-up, I Robot, that the outfit reached its true potential. Borrowing not just its title but concept from Isaac Asimov's classic sci-fi Robot trilogy, this album explores many of the philosophies regarding artificial intelligence -- will it overtake man, what does it mean to be man, what responsibilities do mechanical beings have to their creators, and so on and so forth -- with enough knotty intelligence to make it a seminal text of late-'70s geeks, and while it is also true that appreciating I Robot does require a love of either sci-fi or art rock, it is also true that sci-fi art rock never ...

| | Stone Temple Pilots Thank You CD (2003) Bonus Track; Greatest Hits
Dirty Mind album
$25.59 Includes bonus DVD with live performances, music videos, still photos and bootleg performances shot by fans and friends.
Although they've often been compared to their slightly older Seattle cousins, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots were quite capable of creating their own sound, and this retrospective offers the proof. THANK YOU opens with the hard-charging "Vasoline" followed by "Down," a thick slab of Black Sabbath-like riffery. Though the grunge references of hits like the stomping "Wicked Garden" and the bizarrely catchy "Plush" are undeniable, STP come into their own on tunes from their second and third albums, PURPLE and TINY MUSICāSONGS ...

| | Scooter Mind The Gap (Deluxe Verison) CDs (2005) Import
Dirty Mind music CDs
$31.45 The deluxe version of Scooter's MIND THE GAP comes with enhanced video features (including the video for "Shake That") and a bonus disc that features live material.
With each album Scooter are sounding more and more like the bastard child of 2 Unlimited and Right Said Fred who was conceived in the KLF's ice cream van while it was cruising the hedonistic and vacant shores of Ibiza. If that makes you shudder in cheese-horror, keep moving, but if it makes you twitch in anticipation, know that Mind the Gap is their most well-rounded and arguably their most fun album outside of any of their compilations. Opening with an everyday, mood building intro, Mind the Gap picks up the pace with the entirely empty but totally kitschariffic "One (Always Hardcore)" which recalls all that was good about "James Brown Is Dead," "Zombie Nation" and that Paul Lekakis chestnut ...
