As time goes on, heavy metal continues to get more and more extreme. No, not the "stuff" you hear on the radio or see on MTV that tries to pass itself as metal, but the music that is bubbling under in the metal underground. Nile is one such band that continues to push metal's boundaries to the limits, as it does on its 2005 release Annihilation of the Wicked (produced by Neil Kernon of Queensr˙che fame). Obviously judging from its name and song titles, the group has a thing for Middle Eastern imagery, and the album starts off with sounds straight out of the desert, "Dusk Falls Upon the Temple of the Serpent on the Mount of Sunrise." But there is nothing that could possibly prepare you for what is lurking around the corner, as perhaps "a metallic head-on collision" is a fitting description for the machine gun-like "Cast Down the Heretic." Guitarist Karl Sanders continues to make a valid argument that he is one of the top guitarists of the extreme metal genre throughout the album, as he has no problem keeping pace with the rapid-fire drums. If you're not well versed with this style of metal, the songs on Annihilation of the Wicked may start to blend into one another after a while, but extreme metal fans will be writhing in ecstasy. ~ Greg Prato

The album is amazing. Nile may never be able to top this one. But....What is up with those incredibly long song titles? Seriously, thats messed up. But the album is amazing, so buy it

i cant count the number of times i have listened to this album. musically, this is perfection. timing is sharp, the drums are beyond anything you have ever heard, all the guitar work is original, tainted with egyptian themes, and of course, extremely technical. and as far as lyrics, nile remains the lords. no one can top the originality or well researched lyrics nile has to offer.
buy it! and if not the whole thing, my faves: sacrifice unto sebek, lashed to the slave stick, cast down the heretic, annihilation of the wicked and burning pits of the duat.

i stopped listening to Nile after "in their darkest shrines" the production on this album didnt helped me to get into it, but i saw a video from "annihilation of the wicked" and i thought to try to listen to them again, well, i believe that this is their first record that is really good, the production is perfect, especially on the drums which on the previews albums has so much bass sound, now is more clear, they should sound like this from the first record, the riffs are excellent also in all the tracks, finally i believe that these guys are proving with this record that they have some talent, if there is a record that you should start with Nile then definetly thats the one
