Jukebox Jazz! From The Southside Of Chicago
$14.89 Personnel: Lucinda Williams (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Lucinda Williams; Doug Pettibone (guitar, lap steel guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, harmonica, background vocals); Jim Christie (keyboards, drums, percussion); Taras Prodaniuk (bass guitar, background vocals). Audio Mixer: Michael Dumas. Recording information: The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA (11/20/2003/11/22/2003). Lucinda Williams has earned a reputation for her meticulous approach to making albums, but a careful listen to her work suggests that she isn't trying to make her music sound perfect, she just wants it to sound right, and she isn't afraid to spend the extra time waiting for the charmed moment to get caught on tape. This attitude seems to be borne out in her first-ever concert album, Live @ The Fillmore, which manages to sound carefully considered, and a model of "warts and all" authenticity at the same time. Recorded during a three-night stand in San Francisco, the album captures Williams' band in superb form -- Doug Pettibone's guitars, Taras Prodaniuk's bass, and Jim Christie's drums merge into a tight and emphatic groove machine that can match Williams's many moods, whether she's quietly contemplative on "Blue," rocking out hard on "Changed the Locks," or howling the blues on "Essence," while the deeply resonant recording and mix gives them the royal treatment. Williams ...

Jukebox Jazz! From The Southside Of Chicago
$13.79 This is a live concert recording of Dizzy and Bird from Town Hall not previously known to have been recorded. With audio restoration by Ted Kendell, the sound is excellent. This is a discovered recording of Dizzy and Bird at bebop's inception - the equiv
Personnel: Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet); Dizzy Gillespie; Curly Russell (double bass); Charlie Parker (alto saxophone); Don Byas (tenor saxophone); Al Haig (piano); Max Roach, Big Sid Catlett (drums). Liner Note Authors: Robert E. Sunenblick M.D.; Ted Kendall; Ira Gitler. Recording information: Town Hall, New York, NY (06/22/1945). Photographer: Charles B. Nadell. The historic live Town Hall sessions by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker from 1945 have been discovered on an acetate pressing, and are transferred with digital enhancement to CD. Why this concert was not issued initially is understandable, but Ira Gitler's informative and insightful liner notes suggest they likely were misplaced. What Gitler's essential writing also reveals is that these dates were approximate by only weeks to the original studio recordings ...

Jukebox Jazz! From The Southside Of Chicago
$12.89 Personnel: Phil Dwyer (saxophone); Darrell Grant (piano); Tom Wakelung (bass guitar); Alan Jones (drums). The Bridge Quartet consists of tenor saxophonist Phil Dwyer, pianist Darrell Grant, bassist Tom Wakeling, and drummer Alan Jones: Night is the second volume of their work together over a two day period in 2007, complicated by Dwyer being delayed at the U.S.-Canada border on his way to Portland. There's a bit more energy in this recording than their earlier release, since it is before a live audience. The quartet really stretches ...
