| | Georgie Auld You Got Me Jumpin' CD - Import Georgie Auld Discography of CDs
Recorded live with brief and unobtrusive emceeing in 1949 at the Empire in Hollywood, CA, this remarkably satisfying album of West Coast cool bop is so exceptional that anyone who gives a rip about honest jazz is advised to seek it out and soak it up. This disc contains what is quite possibly some of the very best music ever recorded by saxophonist Georgie Auld. A veteran of bands led by Bunny Berigan, Artie Shaw, Jan Savitt and Benny Goodman, Auld led his own big band from 1943 to 1946. The ten-piece group heard live at the Empire in 1949 used arrangements by Neal Hefti, Billy Byers and Gerry Mulligan, who blew his baritone sax alongside reedmen Georgie Auld, Pete Terry and Clint Neagley, trumpeter Neal Hefti and tenor trombonist Billy Byers. The rhythm section consisted of pianist Jimmy Rowles, bassist Joe Mondragon, drummer Alvin Stoller and Karl Kiffe on bongos. This band was only together for a very short period of time; posterity is fortunate to have access to such an excellent example of their collective artistry. Everything about this recording is positive, uplifting, solid and stimulating. ~ arwulf arwulf

You Got Me Jumpin' songs
$13.75 Bob Crosby's best and most enjoyable working ensemble was a scaled-down version of his big band. Strongly steeped in traditional jazz and well-stocked with excellent improvisers, they were known to the world as the Bob Cats. Although other reissue labels have tried, Sounds of Yesteryear might have topped them all in 2008 by releasing the complete recordings of this solid little group in three installments. Vol. 1 hunkers down and concentrates upon sessions that took place between November 1937 and June ...

| | Adonis Rose Sextet On The Verge CD (2007) (Import) Netherlands
You Got Me Jumpin' album
$15.65 On the Verge comes eight years after Unity and a full decade since Adonis Rose's debut Song for Donise. Rose recorded this, his third album, in 2004. In the album's liner notes, he said that, at the time of the recording, he felt he was "on the verge of doing something new and creative." The product doesn't sound like a musician on the precipice of any great musical breakthrough; instead, it's a string of solid straight-ahead tracks and pleasant, contemporary mid-tempo tunes. Rose's chops, however, have seasoned and his writing (he penned four of the eight cuts) has tightened. He brought his crew -- trumpeter Nicholas Payton saxophonist Tim Warfield and bassist Reuben Rogers -- with him, too. Only Anthony Wonsey is missing from the former quintet that toured and recorded extensively together. Payton, Warfield and Rogers use this familiarity to turn in stalwart performances where the entertainment is found in the interplay between old friends, ...
