| | Punk-O-Rama 10 CD
Coinciding with the 2005 edition of the Vans Warped Tour is PUNK-O-RAMA 10, part of the compilation series that has not only become an Epitaph Records standard, but offers a diverse mix of the label's far-flung roster for a pittance. The usual old-school punk suspects can be found here, from both the West Coast (Bad Religion, the Offspring), and the East (Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls).
Alongside the profane and political NOFX rant "No Fun in Fundamentalism" and the Rancid moshpit anthem "White Knuckle Ride," hip-hop gains a higher profile than on prior compilations.
Renegade rap producer Danger Mouse joins forces with underground MC MF Doom as Dangerdoom for the Far East-flavored "Mince Meat" and emo-hip-hop MC Sage Francis represents Rhode Island with the stripped-down "Sun Vs. Moon." Rounded out by the hiccuping psychobilly of Tiger Army's "Ghostfire" and hellacious hardcore of Some Girls' "I Need Drugs," this is an aural snapshot of Epitaph in the year 2005. Complementing the CD is a DVD featuring videos by artists not on the audio portion, including deconstructionist blues-rockers the Black Keys and Minneapolis rappers Atmosphere.
This set includes 21 music videos, plus audio tracks from From First To Last, Matchbook Romance, Millencolin, Youth Group, Converge, C.AARME, Tiger Army, The Matches, Bad Religion, The Coup, Scatter The Ashes, Weatherthans, Black Keys, Atmosphere, HorrorPops, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Sould, Pulley, Roger Miret & The Disasters, Eyedea & Abilities, and The Special Goodness, plus unreleased audio tracks from The Offspring, Bad Religion, Hot Water Music, The Bouncing Souls, The Coup, This Is Me Smiling, The Matches, Scatter the Ashes, The Special Goodness, and DANGERDOOM, along with more audio tracks by Motion City Soundtrack, Sage Francis, Some Girls, The Unseen, Rancid, Punk-O-Rama 10 Review

| | Scum Of The Earth Blah...Blah...Blah CD (2004)
Punk-O-Rama 10 CD music
$9.89 When former Rob Zombie guitarist Riggs starts a project of his own, one expects a strong White Zombie influence. Riggs, after all, spent six years in Rob Zombie's employ, and the influence was bound to rub off -- which is exactly what happens on Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs for the New Millennium. This is the first album by Scum of the Earth, an outfit that includes not only Riggs (lead vocals, guitar), but also, Powerman 5000 guitarist Mike Tempesta (the brother of Zombie drummer John Tempesta). Not surprisingly, the Rob Zombie influence is quite strong on this CD, which favors the sort of rhythmic, industrialized electro-metal that Riggs' former employer is known for. But if Blah...Blah...Blah is less than groundbreaking, it is never dull or uninspired -- quite the contrary. Rob Zombie taught Riggs well, and none of Scum of the Earth's material fails to be hooky and infectious. Unlike so many of the post-`80s alternative metallers whose lyrics are totally introspective, Zombie has brought a sense of campy, over-the-top fun to the table -- and the dark-humored mixture of horror, sex, sleaze and decadence that one expects from Zombie (or, for that matter, the Electric Hellfire Club) is also a main ingredient of Blah...Blah...Blah. Notice that certain ...

$15.15 Originally released in singer/songwriter Sally Seltmann's native Australia in 2004 before Broken Social Scene's label Arts and Crafts picked it up for international distribution the following year, New Buffalo's full-length debut blends electronic and acoustic instruments in richly textured arrangements. Conceptually similar to contemporaneous albums by Keren Ann, Emiliana Torrini, and Feist (who in 2007 would have a major international hit with her version of Seltmann's song "1234"), what sets The Last Beautiful Day apart are Seltmann's talents as both ...
