START A WAR's attendant printed info notes that the disc was recorded in "Sunny Burbank, California." A few seconds, however, is all it will take to convince listeners that this is one of Static X's darkest efforts. "The Enemy" skitters along at a frenetic, machine-gun-like pace appropriate for it's war-related title, while lead vocalist/screamer Wayne Static delivers an abrasive yet fleet-tongued combination of death-metal growling and East Coast speed-rapping. "Just in Case" emphasizes the industrial side of Static X's sound, with chorus music reminiscent of something one might hear in an auto manufacturing plant. "I Want to F****** Break It" begins with what sounds like an old time carnival tune that, though quickly overtaken by a repetitive jackhammer riff and violent lyrics, reappears throughout the song. The keyboards and new wave-style vocals that drive "My Damnation"'s verse reveal that in another life, Static X likely could have made it as a synth-pop band.
Static-X: Koichi Fukuda, Wayne Static (guitar); Nick Oshiro (drums); Tony Campos (background vocals).
Static-X Start A War Songs Start A War Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not as good as earlier albums This CD has some good songs on it...some really heavy stuff that can get people moving but I thought compared to 'Machine' and 'Shadow Zone' it is not as good.
The album tends to also fade in the second half and get a bit repetative and basic. I prefer the first 5 or 6 tracks and thats about it. Submitted by a (ssss, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

This CD gets me pumped every time! OK, at first I never really payed attention to Static-X, but when I heard "Skinnyman" I started to pay more attention to them. Then I heard a song called "I'm The One" and I also saw the video for that song. The video was excellent, I loved it! Then I saw another video for a song called "Dirthouse", after this I decided to buy the Start A War album. This album rocks! It gets me pumped every time I listen to it. I love the first song on the CD: "The Enemy". "Start A War" is also a great track. Great CD! Submitted by AutopilotOff103 (Saugus, MA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Counter Punch! After drifting a little on the last couple of albums which were still quite good, they have re-established that crunchy edge to their music, all they need to do now is incorporate that 'evil disco' synth dynamic back into the mix and then it will be complete static-x, easily their best effort since '..... | | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Start A War CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Start A War music CDs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch onto SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA with the same passion with which they embraced THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. And most importantly, unreconstructed Southern rockers of the boogie-and-beer ...
| | Static-X Shadow Zone CD (2003)
Start A War songs
$9.69 Despite changing personnel for the second consecutive album, Static-X has successfully continued down the path of hard-charging industrial rock on their third album, SHADOW ZONE. In an odd move, drummer Nick Oshiro is named in the liner notes as the departed Ken Jay's replacement despite the fact that A Perfect Circle's Josh Freese was responsible for all the drumming on this outing. Regardless of who was bashing skins, Static-X has clung to their formula of jackhammer tempos, lead-pipe riffs and pounding time-keeping on songs like "Destroy All," the title cut, and "Kill Your Idols." Of course, Wayne Static, the singer that looks like the guy in the Slim Jim commercials, maintains his position front and center, and although he still howls through numbers like "Otsegolectric" and "Monster," he's also managed to harness his aggression on more melodic fare like "The Only" and "So." Concerns by diehard fans ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Start A War album
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar riffs, and powerful drumming. Each song is based around memorable vocal hooks and sensitive lyrical content.
Many tracks on CATCH WITHOUT ARMS have a searching quality to them. Despite the sheer force of ...

Start A War songs
$20.95 Antimatter is an experimental project delving into atmospheric mood rock. Led by multi-instrumentalists Duncan Patterson (ex-Anathema) and Michael Moss and featuring various different singers, Antimatter's 2002 debut, Saviour, is a varied affair, couching delicate, almost gothic voices and melodies into softly pulsing electronic rhythmic foundations. Fittingly, the album's barren, ultra-white artwork provides the perfect trailer for the stark, austere compositions within; it also recalls Patterson's final outing with Anathema, 1998's Alternative 4, but calling this a direct descendant of any sort would be misleading ...

$6.69 A prolific songwriter and music composer, who plays the guitar and keyboard Sleepy Wondr started his musical career as the First R&B solo artist to be signed to Prince Markie Dee's Soul Convention Records which had major distribution through Epic Records. Unfortunately, the label folded before Sleepy's debut album,"Step 2 Da Stage" was released. Nevertheless, representatives from EMI heard tracks from that album and offered Sleepy a publishing deal. This lead to him being able to pen a song called "Raindown" for the critically acclaimed 1998 Miss Jones album called, "The Other Woman". Sleepy was also the ghost writer that penned the hit single,"He Can't Luv U" by Jagged Edge off of the Double Platinum JE Heartbreak album. After years of ghost writing Sleepy ...
