(3 Customer Reviews)
A decent ten-track summary of 1980's In Search of the Rainbow Seekers, 1983's Juicy Fruit, 1984's You, Me and He, and 1986's Theater of the Mind, Juicy contains some of Mtume's most significant contributions to '80s R&B radio, though it doesn't leave enough room for a couple highlights (such as "C.O.D. [I'll Deliver]," a minor quiet storm hit that deserved better). Full-blown '80s R&B freaks really should track down each album, but it is a pleasant surprise that this set exists. The more enduring standouts include "Would You Like To (Fool Around)," "You, Me and He," and -- of course -- the perfect "Juicy Fruit." ~ Andy Kellman

Juicy Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Great R&B Great Cd,great price and shipment was one time. Submitted by larenda0619 (Saunt Louis, Mo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Adequate, but not Comprehensive As a band, Mtume has never had an a "real" greatest hits compilation and JUICY isn't the comprehensive compilation needed. It has some of the bigger hits such as "Juicy Fruit" and "Give It On Up", but there is a LOT of great material missing. Hopefully, one day the Columbia/Legacy recording series will get around to a more complete anthology. Until then, this merely okay CD will have to do. Classic Soul Oldie but Goodie! I'm reminded of my childhood growing up in the 70's. This is definitely one that takes me back. I love classic soul and R&B. A must have in your CD library if you don't have it allready. Submitted by inanutchelle11272 (Pasadena, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Juicy album
$6.15 Essentially a side project for Prince in the wake of his tour with Rick James in support of Dirty Mind (1980), the Time made their self-titled album debut in 1981, a few months before the release of Controversy. The band's lineup is listed as Morris Day (vocals), Jesse Johnson (guitar), Terry Lewis (bass), Jimmy Jam (keyboards), Monte Moir (keyboards), and Jellybean Johnson (drums) -- all from the same Minneapolis music scene as Prince -- though reportedly all the music heard on The Time was performed by Prince with the exception of the vocals and a couple synthesizer solos. Moreover, Prince wrote all but one of the songs. None of this information is evident in the liner notes, however (at least not on the initial edition), as the only sign of Prince's involvement is a production credit for Jamie Starr, one of his pseudonyms. The origin of the Time -- and subsequently Vanity 6 -- came about because Prince was a prolific artist ...

$11.05 (saxophone, keyboards, vocals); Abdul Raoof (trumpet, flugelhorn,
percussion); Jason "T.C." Bryant (keyboards, vocals); John Alexander
Simpson (bass, vocals); James Earl Jones III (drums, vocals); Jerome "JT"
All songs written by James Harris III and Terry Lewis except "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" (Harold Clayton/Sigidi) and "What's Wrong With Our Love Affair?" (Jason Bryant).
Like all greatest-hits or best-of compilations, this one is missing some key ingredients, namely "S.O.S. (Dit Dit Dit Dat Dat Dat Dit Dit Dit)" and "Just the Way You Like It." Since the band didn't record tons of material and was only active a short time, the omissions are hard to fathom. It's not like they didn't have room on the CD; only ten songs are compiled here. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are well represented with eight songs. Despite the omissions, this is still good listening. Mary Davis' vocals are irresistible; she can do it all. On "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," ...

$7.85 Recorded between 1980 & 1992. Includes liner notes by Tracy Helen New.
Digitally remastered by Dan Hirsch (DigiPrep, Hollywood, California).
Rhino's 2001 collection, The Very Best of Howard Hewett, is a terrific collection, containing a generous 16 tracks that span not only his solo hits, but "Heaven Sent You," the Stanley Clarke tune he sang lead on, plus two songs that he sang for in Shalamar ("This Is for the Lover in ...

$9.59 If you ever had to look up the word "BUZZ" in a hip hop dictionary, under it you would find a picture of Miss Nana - Buzz, Buzz-ing, Buzz-es, Verb˜ - 3 national tours, 2005 Underground Music Award for Most Promising Artist, selling over 32,000 of her 8 mixtapes and co-signed by artists like Bow Wow, Wyclef, Chris Brown and DJ's Kay Slay & Funk Master Flex Miss Nana, born Tanyshwia D. Stokes, a native of Newark (The Brick City) New Jersey, has been around the music business all her life. Her father, the infamous Big 7 is the founder of "Newark Illustrated" - A production company and movement that for the past 10 years has been connecting Hip-Hop, entertainment, clothing and community pride in the Brick City. And soon to spread it's love around the world. Nana's story is an interesting one. DJ King Shameek (of Twin Hype fame) heard Nana, who at the tender age of 10, rhyming on her Dad's voicemail. Shameek, blown away by what he heard, suggested that she do a promo for Wendy Williams' syndicated radio Show on 107.5 WBLS in NYC. The promo led to other opportunities, such as opening for local shows and recording freestyles and remixes for various radio and Mixtape DJ's across the country. Shortly after BUZZING on about two dozen mixtapes and on plenty of mix-shows around the world, people began to talk about this young unsigned artist. Thanks to a number of high profile duets - on BET's 106 & Park while being interviewed - recording artist Bow Wow invited Newark's favorite lil sista to join him on his 2003 "Unleashed Tour." Then in 2005/2006 Bow used Nana as his secret weapon, by adding her to his performance set on the Holladay Tour, while announcing to the world as Nana being the 1 st lady of his, LB Dub Entertainment company. The Holladay Tour included Chris Brown, Omarion, Marcus Houston, Ciara, Trey Songz, and Da Franchise Boyz. After the completion of the tremendously successful tours, and hours of on-stage experience, Miss Nana began to kick down doors, performing throughout the country with the likes of 50 Cent, Mario, Lil Jon, Amerie, Lil Kim, Floetry, 3LW, Ying Yang Twinz, J-Kwon, Rah Digga, Wyclef, Joe Buddens, 8 Ball & MJG, to name a few. As busy as Nana's been, she still manages to "make the grade" in school and simultaneously packing auditoriums from city to city during her School Promo Tour. Some highlights include a performance for Radio Disney at the African American Festival in Albany NY, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and a Half Time Show for the WNBA's Liberty game at NYC's Madison Square Garden. This Buzz keeping artist continues to keep popping up in write-ups like J-14, Right On! and Word Up! Magazines. One of Nana's mixtapes entitled "State of The Union" with one of her standout ...

$13.15 Here's a fascinating weave of rhythm and story lines, taking you by the choice of music and its sympathetic ambience through the power of your words and thoughts, and how they attract and create conditions you may not have really seriously thought about. It encourages the listener to stick to the right intuitive view "no matter what you feel you feel you may feel, no matter what they say what they say what they say, what they say!" The musical rhythm is punctuated and accompanied by thematic chorus lines as in Better Life, One Word, and Soldiers Under Fire, while 'Magnets' is outstanding for the way it takes you through character experiences and what they mean, by the range of musical sound, tonality and transitions. "We are all Magnets," the song says, for whatever conditions we create and attract!" Three of the songs relate to soldier experiences in war, and "Soldiers Under Fire" actually depicts a story line of soldiers in their unit pinned down by ...
