| | Backstreet Boys Never Gone CD Backstreet Boys Discography of CDs
(61 Customer Reviews)
NEVER GONE opens on a majestic note with the subtly complex "Incomplete," an aching ballad with an imperial piano-and-strings backing that falls somewhere between Five For Fighting and Nickelback. From there the record presents compositions as attractive as the pastoral settings on the album's cover, which the Backstreet Boys instill with the same soft-burning passion for which they've become known. Whether on the driving pop of "Just Want You To Know," the throwback soul of "Weird World," the modern funk of "Poster Girl," or the earnest and reflective folk of "Safest Place to Hide," the Backstreet Boys have a keen ear for melody and the comfortable ease of singers who have played off each other for a decade. NEVER GONE continues the legacy of the best boy band around.
The Backstreet Boys were the primary sensation of the late-1990s boy-band craze, and their fourth record bears the title NEVER GONE. It is an almost defiant proclamation for a group that held five years of silence since its last release, but it is also a truly fitting title. While the musical winds had inevitably changed since 2000's BLACK & BLUE, there's always room for winsome, well-crafted pop and this fivesome still know how to effortlessly wrap their charming harmonies around a sweet pop concoction.
Backstreet Boys: Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean (vocals).

Never Gone album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only ...
| | Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits CD (2004) Remastered; Digipak
Never Gone CD music
$10.39 Hard-rock juggernauts Guns 'N' Roses arrived as rock & roll saviors in a dark time of generic hair metal and bloated pop. With only five studio albums to draw from (one being the all-covers SPAGHETTI INCIDENT), nearly a third of the material on GREATEST HITS is unsurprisingly devoted to other people's songs. Inclusions range from a dramatic version of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heavens Door" and an outsized take on Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die" to punk classic "Ain't It Fun" and doo-wop nugget "Since I Don't Have You."
The band's original songs, however, are the heart of G'N'R's appeal. Start with the quintessential heavy-rock anthem "Welcome to the Jungle." Amid the thunderous time-keeping and tasty riffing are slinky grooves, sexy swagger, and quite an aura of danger. The acoustic "Patience" found these tattooed bad boys showing off a softer side, while archetypal power-ballad "Sweet Child O' Mine" is a perfect hybrid of sentiment and soaring guitar solos. Think of GREATEST HITS as a sampler for the sumptuous ...
| | Tesla Into The Now CD (2004)
Never Gone music CDs
$8.49 Unfairly labeled a hair-metal band, Tesla was always closer to the spirit of vintage 1970s hard rock. When the group released 1994's BUST A NUT, grunge rock was in full swing, and the Sacramento quintet subsequently took their curtain call, keeping busy with low-profile side projects. Testing the waters in 2000, Tesla launched a successful reunion tour, proving the band's enduring appeal. INTO THE NOW stands as their first full-length studio effort in 10 years.
The core of Tesla's sound has been updated with a fresh and contemporary flavor, but it's still very much their own. Jeff Keith's voice retains its heartfelt grit and grease, while guitarists Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeotch have noticeably absorbed some nu-metal influences in the band's downtime. Downtuned, post-grunge riffs drive tracks such as "Miles Away," "Mighty Mouse," and the aptly named title track. Still, Tesla are truly in their element when they tap into the vibe that's endeared them to legions of fans, best evidenced in future classics "Caught Up In A Dream" and "What A Shame."

| | Nelly Furtado Loose CD (2006)
Never Gone album
$10.39 On her third studio album, LOOSE, Nelly Furtado largely abandons the bohemian vibe of previous outings, opting for an energetic, club-ready sound said to be influenced by the time she spent recording in Miami. The Canadian-born singer-songwriter approaches this significant change with wild abandon, as revealed on the sensual singles "Promiscuous," a remarkably catchy dance-pop tune that features Timbaland, and "Maneater," a leering, techno-tinged track. The percussive "No Hay Igual" finds ...
| | Daughtry CD (2006)
Never Gone CD music
$9.29 As one of the finalists on the fifth season of the AMERICAN IDOL reality-TV show, North Carolina-based neo-grunge vocalist Chris Daughtry garnered even more attention by getting asked to be the frontman for the group Fuel, and then, surprisingly, declining the offer. This 2006 album, technically credited to the band Daughtry, reveals what the singer opted for instead, offering up impressively catchy, yet requisitely brooding, heavy rock, as best revealed on the emotive "It's Not Over" and the urgent "What I Want," which features former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash.

Never Gone album
$16.09 Released more than two years after Waking Up With the House on Fire derailed Culture Club's hit-making ways, This Time gathers the songs of one of the most successful pop bands of the '80s. All the U.S. hits are included (save for "Mistake No. 3," which is understandable). From the buoyant "Karma Chameleon" and the Motown-inspired "Church of the Poison Mind" to the breezy "Time (Clock of the Heart" and the new wave torch song "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," listening to This Time is like being ...
| | Eloy Dawn CD (1976) Import; Remastered; Reissued
Never Gone CD music
$10.49 This remastered version of the 1976 album features 12 tracks from the prog outfit Eloy.
Before recording this album, Eloy's fifth, Frank Bornemann had to rebuild his group. With Klaus Peter Matziol (bass), Detlev Schmidtchen (keyboards), and Jürgen Rosenthal (drums), he had the lineup that would become known as the "classic" Eloy. Furthermore, this version of the band crowned him producer, giving him a wild card to do what he had in mind. Thus the transformation of the group from a blues-rock-influenced avatar of Jethro Tull (circa Benefit and Aqualung) to a symphonic progressive rock group leaning toward Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd was completed with the release of Dawn. A concept album co-written by Bornemann and Rosenthal, it tells the tale of a man who after a sudden death comes back as a ghost. He tries to pass on his newly acquired knowledge to his loved one (Jeanne, also the name of the girl in Power and the Passion). The album ends with his dissolving into light, closing on the quote, "Nous sommes du soleil" ("We are of the sun") from Yes' Tales From Topographic Oceans, released two years before. The hard ...
