| | Tom Waits Glitter And Doom Live CDs (2009) Digipak
Miles Away CD music
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced ...

$102.39 Initial pressings featured a limited edition, cardboard-stock gatefold sleeve and unpublished archive photos.
KC's debut album introduced to the world a group that threw various '60s genres into a blender and set the results afire with a blowtorch. One of the pioneers of the progressive rock movement that began in the late '60s and flourished in the early '70s, King Crimson was arguably the most consistently creative band in the genre. On IN THE COURT they blend wispy, Donovan-ish folk-rock ...

| | Sound Of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits CD (2006)
Miles Away songs
$10.45 Standard edition of 2003 debut album, for UK girl group, that's a blend of pop, R'n'B, new wave, & dance. The girls have been touted as a mix between Blondie, The Go-Go's, & The Spice Girls. The album features the singles 'Sound Of The Underground', & 'No Good Advice' as well as the Brian McFadden penned track 'Girls Allowed'. Polydor. Standard edition of 2003 debut album, for UK girl group,
Girls Aloud is the leggy quintet that beat out rival boy band One True Voice for the grand prize during the November 2002 finale of Popstars: The Rivals. A scion of existing U.K. reality shows like Popstars and Pop Idol (which itself spawned American Idol), Rivals followed a similar formula, with one essential twist. After spending weeks building its bands with the normal round of tryouts, kick outs, voting, and drama, drama, drama, the program pitted its final products against one another in an ultimate pop-reality showdown. As usual, it didn't really matter which group won -- the finalists were to embark on the normal cash-in package tour as soon as possible. But something funny happened on the way to ringtone fame. Girls Aloud's debut single "Sound of the Underground" debuted at number one, One True Voice imploded, the collaborative tour was canceled, and the Girls suddenly emerged as something more than wide-eyed reality TV winners. The quintet embraced their newfound celebrity and set the lofty goal of being better than the Spice Girls. To that end, there's Sound of the Underground, a cleverly arranged tray of sweetmeats manufactured to firmly establish the Girls Aloud sound. Unlike Sporty, Baby, Scary, Ginger, and Posh, separate personas aren't part of the Girls Aloud marketing arc. Underground's cover features them in matching Fem-Bot silver -- there's no individuality beyond varying hair color. No, it's the sound that sells this combo. The hit title track is a mechanistic sashay of twangy surf guitar and sultry gang vocals -- Girls Aloud explodes like a five-headed Kylie Minogue. Follow-up single "No Good Advice" is just as good, if not better. That scraggly spy movie guitar returns, but it's fastened to a bopping "Material Girl"-style groove. Underground does a great job of carrying its sound and production through to the end, dropping sizzling guitar parts and kinetic dancefloor jams as deep in the dirt as "Boogie Down ...

Miles Away music CDs
$12.95 The "tender" side of Merzbow? Not exactly, but close. Minazo is not only the name of an album by Masami Akita (Merzbow), it was the name of an elephant seal who passed away in a Japanese Aquarium in 2005. Minazo, who passed away at the age of 11 when the average life expectancy for such an animal is 20, was the only elephant seal in Japan and was brought from Uruguay in 1995. Akita visited the aquarium often simply to visit the seal and received "behind the scenes" access ...

| | Pittsburgh Slim Tastemaker CD (2007) Edited
Miles Away album
$6.69 One of the few MCs to represent the Iron City on a national scale, Pittsburgh Slim signed to Def Jam and released TASTEMAKER in 2007. Featuring robust boom-bap production specked with Rick Ruben-style guitar licks, dirtball-electro synth flourishes, and Slim's hipster-geek boasting, TASTEMAKER cuts a swath across various underground styles. The album's break-out single, "Girls Kiss Girls," is a silly yet infectious shot of good-times sex rap that guarantees Slim's immediate popularity if not long-term creative legitimacy.
Pittsburgh Slim may be signed to Def Jam -- and by the hand of none other than Jay-Z -- but his debut EP Tastemaker gives little indication as to why he's any more legit than "My Bum Is on Ya Lips" b-boy Tom Green. ...
