Words and Music, released in November 1970, was the first album recorded as such by 24-year-old Jimmy Webb (or Jimmy L. Webb, as he was credited on the cover). But he had achieved a measure of fame as a songwriter in the preceding years. His compositions had given him two dozen entries on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1967 and 1970, among them the Top Ten hits "MacArthur Park" (by Richard Harris), "Worst That Could Happen" (by the Brooklyn Bridge), "Wichita Lineman" (by Glen Campbell), "Galveston" (by Campbell), and "Up-Up and Away" (by the 5th Dimension), as well as the much-recorded "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." (Indeed, the only songwriters more successful on the pop singles chart in 1969 were Kenny Gamble, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney.) These hits, in turn, had made him a favorite of middle-of-the-road pop singers and easy listening artists who covered them. But the late '60s was an era when songwriters largely were singing their own songs, and Webb turned to performing after the unpleasant experience of having some of his demos overdubbed and released without his permission as the 1968 Epic Records LP Jim Webb Sings Jim Webb. The hits recorded by others dwindled in 1970 and he began to hoard his songs for himself, so Words and Music consisted of all new material. Webb deliberately took a less elaborate approach to his music than he and others had taken on his many hits, recording largely alone with guitarist Fred Tackett (who also overdubbed bass, percussion, and trumpet). One could still hear traces of his earlier style here and there, notably the horn chart for the leadoff track, "Sleepin' in the Daytime," which echoed ...

$16.45 Letter from the President. It is with such great sadness that I write this letter, especially while listening to the end product of this Blues Busters Memorial CD album which took some 15years in completion. This project had taken a lot of twist and turns but this by the grace of God, its here today.Hi my name is Rev Delroy Baker; known to the music industry in the USA as Del Baker. It is a privilege to write these few words on behalf of these wonderful singers known internationally as the Blues Busters. I first heard their songs in the mid fifties on jukebox walking by a house of ill repute as a young boy in Montego Bay Jamaica. While still a young man I met them during a stage show with the internationally renown Sam and Dave “Hold on I am coming” at the famous Palladium theatre and then later, at Rusea High School in Lucea where I attended High School there we performed with popular Billy Vernon Band. At that time and so tender in age, I had to sneak out to see these famous fellers perform. It was amazing that these two guys were on the international stage while I was still in high school, and as rumors have it, they sacrificed finishing High school so as to pursue their life’s dream. One thing I never will forget was the impact that the blend of their voices had on my life. These 12 unforgettable love songs are timeless, their singing full of soul, and their performances were dazzling. I had only wish that they were allowed more time on this side of the living for me to do more from their vast collection of golden hits. As you go down through these memorable songs I know that you will appreciate the recapturing of some of the golden moments of your own pass and memories, that made these men so special in our growing up years. I now see the blessing that has been assigned to me this awesome task! This had to be a call of God to meet these guys while we were all in the United States together to fulfill the desire of the Late Jack Plummer who work tirelessly with total conviction and myself in our combine attempt to prove that Jamaica has brought forth some of the most sensational artists on the world stage comparable, to any American soul Artist of our century. We were blessed when the opportunity arrived for us to ...
