After almost a decade of personal, drug-addled hell since his 1970 debut The End of the Game, Peter Green begins his comeback with In the Skies, and a title tune that sounds downright hopeful compared to where he left off. Although Green shares lead guitar work with Snowy White, it's clear from his fluid technique and haunting tone that he can still play. "A Fool No More" is the kind of slow blues Green excels at. Robin Trower drummer Reg Isidore gives way on one track to Godfrey McLean, who played on The End of the Game. Green dips even farther back into his past, courtesy of keyboards by Pete Bardens, who gave him his first professional music job in 1966 in a band with Mick Fleetwood. Green's singing, never a particular strength, is not a weakness here. Five of the nine songs are instrumentals, continuing a longtime Green tradition. It's an unambitious but solid and welcome return by a guitarist who in his prime rivaled Eric Clapton. If that seems far-fetched, listen to A Hard Road by John Mayall's Bluebreakers or Then Play On by Fleetwood Mac. ~ Mark Allan

He has released 2 solo studio albums, "Underwater Hunter" (1998) and "Nine Tons of Blood" (2007), and 2 EPs with longtime collaborator/vocalist, Tarsier ("00:00:01" in 2003 and "The heart of a blue whale is the size of a small car" in 2006). Healamonster's musical style is a darkly visceral and cinematic blend of electronic, dub, experimental and ambient sounds. His musical life began as a kid in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, son to a poet/writer mom and Oldies DJ dad (Doc South). One afternoon, after little league practice, Tomlinson heard Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" on the car radio. From that moment, his affection for computer music began. He played snare drum in his elementary school band, and would get frequent visions of how to electrify the snare to get that breakdance sound. In his New Jersey high school, he had access to an Ensoniq electronic keyboard sampler and a Roland drum machine, where he taught himself how to record samples and sequence sounds. As a teenager, he was most inspired by the progressive sound art of 808 State, Primal Scream and Aphex Twin. Healamonster moved to San Francisco in 1994 where he bought his first Kurzweill K2000 sampling keyboard and played in several underground bands (Pazzo, Humunculous, and Avocado). In 1998, he released his first solo experimental electronic album, "Underwater Hunter" (out of print). Best known as a soul vocalist who gravitates toward the blues, Darrell Nulisch "returns to his roots," as the cliché goes and press materials claim, on this stripped-down release. It was recorded live in the studio with his touring quartet of veterans, which provides a live, gritty feel somewhat, but not entirely disconnected from the singer/harpist's previous work in a smoother, soul-based vein. Despite the title, which pertains to Nulisch's home state (he was born in Dallas), the sessions were recorded in Severne, MD. Still, the style is closer to his early work as vocalist for Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets. That's particularly true of Jon Moeller's reserved, clean, yet powerful guitar lines that seem to have been inspired by Funderburgh's similar approach.
