10 De Collecion
$9.89 EL AMOR DE MI TIERRA was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Performance.
EL AMOR DE MI TIERRA won the 2001 Billboard Latin Music Award for Male Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year.
What do you get when a telenovela (Latino soap opera) star blends old-school vallenato and other traditional Colombian music with a little pop and some edgy rock & roll? A vibrant, earthy music that makes the heart warm with gladness and the impossibility of remaining seated. Sung like little narratives, these are image-rich songs of love, passion, celebration, and a staying affection for one's land of origin.
The title track praises the natural beauties of Vives' rural home to the welcome sounds of his usual accordion player, Egidio Cuadrado. "Fruta Fresca" recalls the urgent passion of his radio hit "Rosa," with fierce, fluid guitar work contrasted with Mayte Montero's airy fluting. Echoing "La Tierra Del Olvido," ...
| | Dolly Parton Heartsongs, Live From Dollywood CD (1994)
10 De Collecion
$12.59 Recorded live at the Celebrity Theater, Dollywood, Tennessee on April 23-24, 1994.
By the early '90s, Dolly Parton's credibility as an authentic country singer was severely waning, thanks to an overabundance of pop crossover singles, flash-in-the-pan comedies, and an incredibly tacky variety show. Parton must have been aware of her crumbling country legacy in 1994, when she rushed out the live album Heartsongs: Live From Home, a smorgasbord of her country hits, the stories behind them, some new songs, and a rather large amount of classic old-timey standards. For the first time in over a decade, Parton managed to keep the production relatively sparse, and while there are no true classic tracks here, there are a surprisingly large amount of great moments. For example, the performance of "Applejack" is incredibly lively, and her newer rendition of "Smokey Mountain Memories" may be the best version of the song available. However, the cover songs are what Dolly truly excels at on Heartsongs. "Night Train to ...

| | Dolly Parton Those Were The Days CD (2005)
10 De Collecion
$15.05 Like fellow country legend Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton was remarkably prolific during the first years of the 21st century, and 2005's THOSE WERE THE DAYS features Parton sharing Nelson's penchant for guest-star-studded albums. The general theme is Parton's favorite songs of the 1960s and '70s, with additional artists ranging from Porter Wagoner, her former duet partner, to singer/songwriter Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). Throughout the disc, Parton's crystal-clear voice shines as bright as ever, meshing particularly well with the record's younger performers, including Australian country-rock hero Keith Urban (the playful "Twelfth of Never") and the bluegrass trio Nickel Creek (a lilting rendition of Bob Dylan's oft-covered "Blowin' in the Wind"). While THOSE WERE THE DAYS isn't quite as consistent as HALOS & HORNS or LITTLE SPARROW (largely due to so many ...
| | Mark David Manders Cannonball CD (2005)
10 De Collecion
$12.95 Texas singer/songwriter Mark David Manders is something of a legend in his home state, where his live shows have built him a solid core of fans. Cannonball comes on the heels of the somewhat more introspective Highs and Lows, and finds him returning to his honky tonk roots with a supporting cast that includes fiddler Heather Morris, backup singer Blondie Chaplin (known for her work with the Rolling Stones), and several members of Bonnie Raitt's band. The resulting sound is surprisingly light and largely acoustic, with some hot electric guitar picking and Hammond B-3 organ thrown in for good measure. Manders' voice isn't the most powerful in the world, but his songs are impressive: the title track is presented in two versions, ...
| | Martina Mcbride Timeless CD (2005)
10 De Collecion
$8.99 While many of her contemporaries (including Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless) imbued their 2005 releases with a traditional bent, Martina McBride went one step further and recorded TIMELESS, an entire album of country classics, many of which date back ...

| | Status Quo Riffs CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
10 De Collecion
$9.39 Status Quo's third album of covers in seven years continues more in the vein of Famous in the Last Century than in the footsteps of Don't Stop; that album, after all, seemed dedicated to establishing the band as all-around pop entertainers. Riffs, on the other hand, restates their credentials as perhaps the single most influential guitar band in British rock history by lining some of Quo's own past classics ...
