10 De Coleccion album
$7.55 Laura Pausini, a multilingual Italian pop singer who won a Latin Grammy in 2005 for Best Female Pop Vocal Album, decided to record an album of cover songs when she returned to the studio to record her follow-up effort. This is a fairly standard practice for pop/rock artists, of course, especially in the wake of a mammoth success like the one Pausini experienced with Resta in Ascolto (released concurrently in Spanish as Escucha in the Americas). Yo Canto (likewise released concurrently in Spanish) is a somewhat unusual covers album, however, for it's comprised of Italian pop/rock songs from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s -- few, if any, of which will be familiar to listeners across the Atlantic. Pausini performs the songs in a manner similar to that of Resta in Ascolto: the songs are heavily produced, layered with guitar, bass, and drums in addition to strings and synthesizers, and the performances are quite dramatic, often soaring to intense heights during the choruses, complemented by lyrics that are moody and poetic. 10 De Coleccion CD music
$7.45 One linguistic myth is that anyone who speaks Spanish is automatically fluent in Italian; the languages are quite similar, but similar is by no means the same as identical. However, it is true that anyone who is fluent in Italian has a definite advantage if he or she wants to learn Spanish (and vice versa), which is why Italian pop star Laura Pausini mastered Spanish and is able to record the same album in both languages. The Italian-oriented Resta in Ascolto and its Spanish-language counterpart Escucha are the same album in two different languages, but once you get past the linguistic difference, it's clear that Pausini has provided the same 11 songs with the same tracks and the same arrangements in the same order. Styli
No stranger to success, Europop sensation Laura Pausini sold over 25 million albums in her first decade or so of recording, quite a feat for someone who was just turning 30 years old and had never broken into the lucrative English-language market. Yet she essentially struck out when she did try to cross over to that English-language market in 2002 with From the Inside. Put mildly, the album bombed stateside. Its qualities (and the qualities of stateside consumers) aside, it was the first full-fledged failure Pausini had experienced in a career of multi-million-selling ...
| | Alejandro Fernandez Me Estoy Enamorando CD (1997)
10 De Coleccion music CDs
$7.59 Principally recorded at Crescent Moon Studios, Miami, Florida and Abbey Road Studio, London, England.
ME ESTOY ENAMORANDO was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance.
This Mexican superstar has been up for more Grammys than one can shake a stick at, should one be inclined toward such an action. It's easy to see why after one listen to ME ESTOY ENAMORANDO. Lush string orchestras mesh with romantic acoustic guitars to provide the perfect bed for Fernandez's sensuous, emotive singing. The accent is on ballads like "No Se Olvidar" and "Yo Naci Para Amarte," a simple case of an artist playing to his strengths. Fernandez knows how to get inside of a slow, heartfelt tune and make it his own. While his core audience will surely be pleased by this album, it will also have an across-the-board appeal to anyone with a taste for the smooth and sensual. Boys, hold onto your girlfriends, he's a heartbreaker.
Symphony Orchestra of London includes: Hector Garrido (conductor); Gavyn Wright, Roger Garland, Paul Wood, Wilf Gibson, Peter Oxer, Cathy Adams, Sonia Slany, Quentin Crida, Gill Findlay (violin); George Robertson, Peter Lale, Ivo Van der Werff, Liz Watson, Garfield Jackson, Bill Hawkes (viola).
