| | Bill Bruford Bruford Tapes CD Bill Bruford Discography of CDs
This live date from 1979 captures one of drummer Bill Bruford's pre-Earthworks groups in a dynamic performance. Although the broadcast tape used for this disc may not have been the best quality, the performance of this powerful ensemble of fusion masters transcends any audio deficiencies. Included in the group with the legendary British drummer are bassist Jeff Berlin, keyboardist Dave Stewart, and guitarist John Clark. Together, lead by Bruford's always-unique drumming, they make a good argument for the existence of the oft-maligned "electric" jazz of the '70s.
Tracks like the boisterous opener "Hell's Bells" and the exceptional "Fainting In Coils" bring an air of raucous adventure to the fore as Bruford and company open the flood gates wide, ignoring any standard conceptions of neither traditional jazz nor rock. The free-flowing attitude of the group is equally evident on more subtle works like the gentle "Travels With Myself-And Someone Else." Another high spot is the two part "Sahara Of Snow," a stunningly diverse piece that takes the group through many colors and textures. Other fine cuts include the dazzling "Beelzebub" and the closing burner "5G."
"The Bruford Tapes" captures perfectly the raw atmosphere of the gig, whilst sacrificing none of the instrumental dexterity, which as ever with Bruford, is off the scale. The material covered on this live album is drawn from the previous Bruford albums "Feels Good To Me" and "One Of A Kind" and includes improvisatory versions of "Hell's Bells", "Beelzebub" and "Sample And Hold" amongst its key tracks. This re-issue of The Bruford Tapes has been remastered and also includes an unreleased bonus track "The Age Of Information". As with all the albums in the Winterfold series of releases, "The Bruford Tapes" comes re-packaged with a bonus disc including music from the contrasting Summerfold catalogue and an exclusive interview with Bill Bruford.
Recorded live at My Father's Place, Roslyn, New York on July 12, 1979.
Personnel: Dave Stewart .
Personnel: Bill Bruford (drums, percussion); John Clark (guitar); Dave Stewart (keyboards); Jeff Berlin (electric bass).

Bruford Tapes album
$23.75 KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD contains 10 bonus tracks and represents everything the band recorded through early 1986, including all of the LOST EP, and the I LOVE MY LEATHER JACKET/THE GREAT ESCAPE 12"
KALEIDOSCOPE WORLD, The Chills' 18-track compilation culled from The Chills early and mid-'80s EPs and singles, is highlighted by the song "Pink Frost."
The Chills' Martin Phillipps mixes up melodic pop with elements of garage rock and punk, creating songs with a sweet melancholy all their own. Phillipps has always been the focus of the Chills, writing and singing the band's songs. His group has also rivaled Menudo in its sheer ...
| | Killing Floor CD (1995) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Bruford Tapes CD music
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon titled "Woman You Need Love," the tune Zep ripped for "Whole Lotta Love." Despite the fact that this set was issued before by Repertoire, the ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Bruford Tapes music CDs
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's "Rocky Raccoon." What Second Chapter immediately sets forth is the importance of Kirwan as a pop ...

Bruford Tapes songs
$13.79 John Hicks was 51 when, in 1993, he recorded Beyond Expectations for the independent Reservoir label, and at that age no one was demanding that the veteran pianist reinvent the jazz wheel. However, it wasn't unreasonable to ask that he show some imagination when it came to choosing material. Some of Hicks' '90s albums placed too much emphasis on overdone warhorses, and that is true of Beyond Expectations. Leading an acoustic piano trio that employs Ray Drummond on bass and Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums, Hicks doesn't offer a lot of surprises. Most of the songs that he embraces (which range from Horace Silver's "Peace" to "There Is No Greater Love" and "Every Time We ...
| | Chino Xl Here To Save You All CD (1996)
Bruford Tapes album
$9.09 Years before Eminem began outraging parents and pop stars alike with his brutally funny lyrics, New Jersey's Chino XL was already making the musical world safe for brainy, tasteless battle-rappers with his enormously promising but little-remembered debut, 1996's Here to Save You All. As might be expected from a rapper who boasts about his SAT scores, Chino is both smart and eccentric, and like Eminem, he uses his razor-sharp wit to lyrically dismember everyone from Will Smith to Magic Johnson to Chubb Rock. Considering the similarities between Detroit's most notorious native son and Chino XL, it's no wonder Eminem-basher Evidence of Dilated Peoples has decried the sometimes ...

$14.59 Saffire-The Uppity Blues Women: Gaye Adegbalola (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Andra Faye (vocals, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass); Ann Rabson (vocals, guitar, piano).
The first studio album in five years from the band finds them for the most part, having a rocking good time and placing an emphasis on the boogie-woogie end of the blues. Instrumentally and vocally they keep getting better and better, with ...
