(10 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
IL DIVO gives the classical/pop crossover a twist, via a quartet of singers whose vocal chops and model-like looks make them four times the heartthrob threat of predecessor Andrea Bocelli. Masterminded by AMERICAN IDOL's Simon Cowell, Il Divo resonates with an international appeal, thanks to the disparate backgrounds of Sebastien Izambard (France), Urs Buhler (Switzerland), Carlos Marin (Spain), and David Miller (United States). Further solidifying the pop quotient is the involvement of Britney Spears/Backstreet Boys producers Per Magnusson and David Krueger.
Lush orchestral arrangements are applied to Spanish-language readings of Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart (Regresa a Mi)" and Frank Sinatra's signature "My Way (A Mi Manera)," enhancing the romantic sweep of the originals. Although much of Il Divo's repertoire is performed in Spanish or Italian, the group also offers up the English-language tunes "Mama," "The Man You Love," and "Every Time I Look at You," which features swelling strings and light piano. As a bonus, the album includes a hidden track--an Italian version of "Unchained Melody," which is tailor-made for Il Divo's bold, dramatic phrasing.

The Three Tenors Surpassed Excellent choice of music utilizing the great vocal ranges of these four singers. They compliment each other and can only become better as they accustom themselves to singing in public. Looking forward to obtaining their next CD. I never bought a CD before but HAD to have this one! I have never been a super fan or groupie of any kind, BUT, at 58, these guys just stunned me when I saw them perform on Oprah. I too, had to just stop in my tracks and watch and listen.
There have only been about 4 times in my life, when I have loved something the VERY FIRST time I heard it. It always takes me by suprise. Even Oprah said that their voices, made the hair stand up on her arms.
I mean it,I have never bought a CD in my life, but I was at Borders when they opened the day that this was released. I can listen to it again, and again and again! SO IMPRESSIVE.
ALSO, they certainly are easy too look at, huh. Georgeous...with the European flair. Submitted by tmnglinda (Dallas, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Il Divo CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Renee Olstead CD (2004)
Il Divo album
$14.69 In a bold move that even more experienced singers might think twice about, Renee Olstead opens her self-titled major-label debut with a stark, a cappella verse of Gershwin's melancholy classic "Summertime." Olstead sings with confidence and swings with authority on this set of standards, an astonishing accomplishment for a young lady, who, at the time of this recording, was only 14 years old. Very little indicates that this album is the work of a teenager, and certain vocal touches even bring to mind the bold vocal style of K.D. Lang. The record features big-band arrangements with lush strings, punchy horns, and even a quasi-Swingle Singers backdrop on "On a Slow Boat to China." Chris Botti provides sexy trumpet obbligato on two numbers, and Peter Cincotti joins Olstead on a stellar duet of Neil Sedaka's "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do," rounding out a remarkable first outing by a notable talent.

| | Peter Cincotti On The Moon CD (2004)
Il Divo CD music
$9.59 As a teenage piano-and-vocal prodigy, Peter Cincotti was, predictably, subject to criticisms of being nothing more than a pale imitation of his influences. On his second full-length album, ON THE MOON, however, the New York City native exhibits the type of quiet confidence that normally takes decades to develop. Unlike many talented youngsters, Cincotti is neither rebel nor revivalist. Rather, he combines a bit of the bluesy New Orleans raunch of his mentor Harry Connick, Jr. with a distinctly Big Apple sophistication that's as much Brill Building as it is Blue Note. The result is something at once fresh and accessible, based in classic forms yet quite contemporary.
Phil Ramone's clean, dry production insures that the focus is always placed squarely on Cincotti's vocals, even on the title track and Gerry Goffin & Carole King's classic "Some Kind of Wonderful," both of which seem aimed directly at the Norah Jones-primed pop market. If the lyrics on Cincotti's originals aren't quite on par with those of Cole Porter and the other masters whose songs he tackles, his piano chops are first rate, as a jaunty and character-filled album-closing romp through "Cherokee" makes abundantly clear.

| | Il Divo Ancora CD (2005) (Import) Germany
Il Divo songs
$17.09 Knowing how to strike while the iron is hot, the international all-male pop-opera revue Il Divo, assembled by AMERICAN IDOL's Simon Cowell, followed up its 2005 debut (and subsequent Christmas album) with yet another outing in early 2006. Here the dashing vocal quartet--Urs Buhler (Switzerland), Sebastien Izambard (France), Carlos Marin (Spain), and David Miller (U.S.)--stays true to its multi-lingual repertoire, offering up a suitably dramatic Spanish version of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" ("Solo Otra Vez") and an English/French rendition of "I Believe in You" (with Celine Dion), among other numbers. While the arrangements on ANCORA are lush and majestic, they never overshadow the full, passionate voices of the foursome, who have clearly become used to working together as a powerful group.
2005 studio album that reflects the multi-national character of the group; the songs are not all sung in English, but drift between Spanish, English and Italian. However they are worded, all use the emotional Esperanto of love. The group's debut album, IL Divo hit the #1 slot on both Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com after a breakout career-defining appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (April 5, 2005) where the quartet performed its interpretation of Toni Braxton's `Unbreak My Heart (`Regressa A Mi'). Highlights on Ancora include 'Isabel' a duet with Celine Dion and IL Divo's cover of Mariah Carey's 'Hero'. Two of the tracks on this CD `O Holy Night' and `Ave Maria' appear on the 2005 US only release, Christmas Collection. Sony. 2005.

| | Rodan Rusty CD (1994)
Il Divo music CDs
$11.55 The lone EP by this seminal Kentucky post-hardcore outfit (whose members would go on to equally beloved indie outfits such as June of 44), reissued with renewed clarity by original label Quarterstick, is a behemoth of unpredictable quiet-loud arrangements and whisper-to-a-wail vocals. The six-song set begins inauspiciously enough with the seven-minute instrumental "Bible Silver Corner," but quickly fires up to its metallically meandering mid-section, highlighted by the 12-minute epic "The Everyday World Of Bodies." Years later, RUSTY sounds anything but what its title suggests; it's a cornerstone of the mid-'90s uprising of artsy ex-punks making complicated math rock.
Personnel: Jason Noble (vocals, guitar, piano); Kevin Coultas (vocals, guitar, drums); Christian Frederickson (viola); Eve Miller (cello); Tara Jane O'Neil (electric bass).

| | Waterboys Fisherman's Blues CD (1988)
Il Divo songs
$8.85 Singer Mike Scott emerges here as a gifted troubadour, a mode he'd explore more fully years later in his solo work. Where he once spun grand statements framed by booming drums and echoing guitars, here he makes simple romantic observations backed by fiddles and acoustic guitars. A surprising nod to country roots pops up as well, with "Has Anybody Here Seen Hank?," but, in the end, FISHERMAN'S BLUES is closer to the Celtic soul of prime Van Morrison (whose "Sweet Thing" is covered here) than it is to either the band's rootsier influences or to any 1980s contemporaries.
On their early albums, the Waterboys became known as practitioners of "the Big Sound," an epic, wide-screen musical vision on a par with the contemporaneous offerings of U2 and Big Country, making them the musical equivalents of Cecil B. DeMille. For FISHERMAN'S BLUES, though, they decided to scale things down considerably, departing for a little while from their outsized pop/rock ambitions to embrace Celtic roots, folk, and heavily Dylan-influenced, BLOOD ON THE TRACKS-like folk-rock. The gambit paid off better than anyone could have expected, resulting in one of the band's most memorable, moving albums.

| | Status Quo On The Level CD (1975) (Import) Bonus Tracks; England; Remastered; United Kingdom
Il Divo album
$14.45 If any single song sums up Status Quo in the hearts and the minds of the millions, it's "Down Down." Other songs may have been bigger, others may have more resonance, and some ("Rocking All Over the World " comes to mind) may be so permanently ingrained that it's hard to remember that Status Quo cut anything else. But, if you want to nail the very essence of Status Quo, only "Down Down" will do. It was their first British number one and their first all-time classic. And it was also their first grinning, winking acknowledgement that not only was there a formula to the records they made, but they were not afraid to list its ingredients. "Down Down" is the perfect Status Quo record, and the fact that it doesn't arrive until six songs into the band's eighth album just proves how much fun it had coming up with it. On the Level is Quo at its single-minded best. It doesn't matter whether its driving the boogie through your skull with the relentless precision of "Little Lady" and "Over and Done," lurching loosely around the ghosts of blues and ballads ("Most of the Time" and a positively maniacal finale of "Bye Bye Johnny"), or even glancing back to their days as one of British psych's finest pop bands ("What to Do"). Still, all roads lead back to "Down Down," a dynamic riff, a perplexing lyric, and a mood that's so compulsive that you'll still be shaking your head in time long after all your hair's fallen out. And, just to make it even better, the album version's almost two minutes longer than the familiar hit, littered with false starts, fake endings, and one of the cruelest fade-outs in recorded history. It comes just as you're really getting into the groove. ~ Dave Thompson
Digitally remastered reissue approved by the band's official fan club! Another No. 1 album (1975) and this time including the band's first No. 1 single 'Down Down'. As a bonus this reissue includes 'Down Down' (single edit), 'Roll Over Lay Down' (live at the Reading Festival), 'Gerdundula' (live at Shepherds Bush Empire), 'Juniors Wailing' (live, 1975) & 'Roadhouse Blues' (live, 1975).
