| | George Strait Chronicles CD George Strait Discography of CDs
MCA Nashville's George Strait box set Chronicles, subtitled "3 Classic Albums," is nothing more or less than a repackaging of Strait's third, fourth, and fifth albums, Right or Wrong (1983), Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind (1984), and Something Special (1985), in which the CDs and their single-sheet booklets have been lifted out of their jewel boxes, placed in a 5_" x 10«" box, and marketed as a set. It's a logical grouping. Strait actually made his commercial breakthrough with his second album, Strait from the Heart, but these three LPs each topped the Billboard country charts, throwing off eight hit singles -- "You Look So Good in Love," "Right or Wrong," "Let's Fall to Pieces Together," "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind," "The Cowboy Rides Away," "The Fireman," "You're Something Special to Me," and "The Chair." Country albums don't tend to be very long, and these are not exceptions to that rule; each contains only ten tracks and runs less than half an hour, resulting in a three-CD box set with a running time of only 85 minutes. The pick of the litter, of course, is 1985 Country Music Association Album of the Year Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind, but all three discs take much the same approach. Strait, who favors white cowboy hats and button-down shirts, sings and plays in traditional country style, rarely straying from the bar and jukebox that are staples of the genre. Each album has at least a couple of tracks in Western swing arrangements, with Something Special boasting four. These are albums only in the sense that they are collections of individual tracks; there is no conceptual unity to the material, which was contributed by 43 different songwriters, including Fred Rose, Merle Haggard, Jo-el Sonnier, Hank Cochran, Peter Rowan, and Harlan Howard. But that means the discs can be put in a multiple-CD player and played one after another (or in random sequencing) without any change in mood. ~ William Ruhlmann

$5.05 DOES FORT WORTH EVER CROSS YOUR MIND was voted CMA Album of the Year in 1985.
After his somewhat belated commercial breakthrough STRAIT FROM THE HEART, George Strait bobbled things a bit with a rushed, uneven follow-up, RIGHT OR WRONG. However, 1984's DOES FORT WORTH EVER CROSS YOUR MIND? not only righted Strait's ...

$10.45 This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system.
Standing out among all the glib, cowboy-hatted moneymakers whose version of country is really just cheesy pop-rock with a pedal steel, George Strait plays it, well, straight. While he's no "Progressive Country" rebel on the order of Steve Earle ...

Chronicles songs
$16.29 This new live album of 17 track of uncompromising hate was recorded on September 17, 2005. The bonus DVD include 8 tracks.
Given how important live concerts are to the black metal experience, one would think that there would be a lot more live albums by black metal artists. But in fact, the majority of black metal bands have not provided live albums. Marduk, thankfully, have provided more than one live album; Warschau is the third live release from these Swedish black metal veterans. Warschau is the German name for the city of Warsaw (in Polish, Warsaw is called Warszawa), and this 74-minute CD was recorded at the venue Proxima in Poland's largest city on September 17, ...
| | Faith Hill: The Hits CD (2007) With DVD; Digipak
Chronicles album
$21.29 Six albums into her career, Faith Hill already has more than enough hit singles to fill a best-of album, so this 13 track compilation is a fine summation of her career up to 2007. Containing seven number-one country hits, many of which crossed over to the pop charts, HITS is a fine argument for Faith Hill as one of the top country singers of her time. From pop crossover smashes like "This Kiss" and "Breathe" to more traditional country songs like "Mississippi Girl" ...
