Viva Kenton! album for sale Product Description
Viva Kenton! album for sale by Stan Kenton was released Jun 07, 2005 on the Capitol Jazz label. Stan Kenton added three Latin percussionists to his 18-piece orchestra for this upbeat program. Gene Roland wrote all of the arrangements and composed each of the Latin-flavored tunes, except for "Adios" and "Artistry in Rhythm." Altoist Charlie Mariano, trombonist Don Sebesky, and trumpeter Rolf Ericson are among the soloists, and the results, as heard on this LP from the Creative World catalog, are potentially gimmicky but surprisingly successful. Viva Kenton! CD music contains a single disc with 16 songs. ...See Full Description

| Delightful south of the border Though not quite as sophisticated and innovative as "Cuban Fire", this 1959 Kenton recording remains one of the most pleasing and entertaining of its "latin sound" albums. The Gene Roland compositions and arrangements sounds fresh and catching exactly like they did 45 years ago and Capitol's legendary sound quality is apparent, even if marred,as the usual,by exaggerate equalization that is the standard of current reissues for this label. Someday, somebody at Capitol will understand that tweaking with equalizers dosn't always mean improving an old recording, making it sizzle with screaching highs and boom with resounding bass, but can mean ruining the priceless "Capitol sound" of the late fifties.Verve and RCA understood this, with their splendid reissues, but at Capitol insist on releasing CD's for portable boom-boxes. The rating refers to the musical content,of course. By Rocco (Rome, Italy) |

| The Best Version of Artistry In Rhythm "Viva Kenton" contains the best version of Artistry In Rhythm since the 1955 vinyl set of the Kenton Era! All the other Gene Roland charts are beautifully crafted as well. This was one of Stan's better efforts and the musicians on this particular version of the Orchestra were top notch. A "must" for any Kenton person and a good introduction to any who are "fringe". The bonus tracks from Artistry In Bossa Nova are exceptional as well. By augerman (Brantford, Ontario, Canada) |
