Put together Sarah McLachlan and Norah Jones and strip them of such deliciously straightforward lyrics as McLachlan's "Your love is better than ice cream," and what you get is bound to resemble Sarah Blasko on The Overture & the Underscore: an entrancing artist who sings exceptionally well but is bent on making you guess what brews within her heart rather than pouring it out to you. "Disconnected things, you exist within a kind of truth/And the consequence is a consummated trial of fire," she sings on "Always Worth It," a smart, moody slice of pure pop that's typical of the 11 songs gathered on this debut. Where most pop grabs hold instantaneously, though, Blasko's brand, punctuated by gentle synth, guitar, and piano melodies, takes its time sinking in. The result is a disc more like barrel-aged wine than fast-melting ice cream. But that's not to say some of the lyrics, like "Between love we make divide/Confusion translates what you can't explain," from "True Intentions," won't give you brain freeze. ~ Tammy La Gorce Overture & The Underscore Music | List Price | $9.97 (You save $1.82) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs | | Label | Low Altitude | | Orig Year | 2005 | | All Time Sales Rank | 71592 | | CD Universe Part number | 6866994 | | Catalog number | 472402 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 07, 2005 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Wally Gagel | | Engineer | Wally Gagel |

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files and contains a live video of the song "People In The City," filmed at The Mayan Theatre on July 12, 20001. Producers: Air, Quentin Dupieux, Modjo. "AIR", "EVRYBODY HERTZ", "VIRGIN RECORDS", "CD", "AMBIENT POP" This Japanese version of the French duo's release features a bonus track, "Flowerhead." The first full-length collection of Air remixes focuses solely on tracks from their sophomore 10,000 Hz Legend album, and only three individual songs at that. Highlights come from the "Don't Be Light" remixes, unsurprising since four of the seven versions are of that one song. It's worked over well by a pair of eccentrics: Neptunes from hip-hop and Mr. Oizo from electronica. The Hacker contributes a solid up-tempo electro version of the same song and newcomer Jack Lahana offers up a new-school funk reworking of "People in the City." Everybody Hertz is really a poor release, though -- surprising for an act so committed to quality control. ~ John Bush Although electronica had its fair share of chillout classics prior to the debut of Air, ...
