| | Red Knife Lottery So Much Drama CD Red Knife Lottery Discography of CDs
Although they've been touted as an art punk ensemble -- and compared to the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sleater-Kinney -- Milwaukee's Red Knife Lottery are far more incendiary. Lead vocalist Ashley Chapman does at times remind listeners of Karen O, but the riotous sound collages her bandmates concoct are an ideal forum for her screaming vengeance. RKL's assault bears resemblance to the Blood Brothers -- a thought affirmed by similar synthesizer lines, hypnotic rhythms, and the guitar noise that permeates inventive concoctions like "The Magnificent Ghost" and the distortion-fueled winner "Call-Girls in Pink Hospitals." If the pinnacle here is the thumping, ass-kicker of an opener "Samantha Brown Get Down! Get Down!," the song's lyrics ("He's coming to rape you/His knife to your throat so you will fall in love") are as disturbing as they are provocative. That dichotomy gives Chapman and her cohorts way more oxygen and staying power than your average wannabe scenesters. ~ John D. Luerssen

| | Minus The Bear Highly Refined Pirates CD (2002)
So Much Drama songs
$12.25 They may call this math rock but -- contrary to the attempt at pigeonholing -- it rarely gets boring. Which is usually a good sign that the usual musical designations don't really apply to Minus the Bear. The only question that comes up during a casual or earnest listen to their latest release, Highly Refined Pirates, is this: where would you place these guys if you had to? Then comes the rejoinder: who cares? Filled with complex guitar fingerwork, aural synth embellishment, and spiraling arrangements that recall everything from King Crimson to More Songs About Building and Food-era Talking Heads to later work from bands like Fugazi (especially The Argument) and Juno, Highly ...
| | Superchunk Cup Of Sand CDs (2003)
So Much Drama album
$13.45 Superchunk has been at it for a long, long time, 14 years when Cup of Sand, a double-disc (25 tracks) roundup of singles, B-sides, rarities, and unreleased songs recorded between 1992 and 2002, was released in 2003. Through its entire career the band has maintained a steady track record, having never put out a record that is anything less than first-rate indie rock. This disc is no different. It is jam-packed full of songs that deserved to be collected under one roof, and has funny and insightful liner-note remembrances from the four bandmembers. Even fans who have all the singles, EPs, and comp tracks will want to own this because of how good the songs sound one after the next. Superchunk is a firm believer in giving its ...

So Much Drama CD music
$13.15 What is the “Temple of Now"you may ask? Being ambiguous, it’s going to be different for everyone but it may be best described as a “focal point in time,” similar to music in this sense. But then which focal point are you talking about? For the “now” becomes in an instant the “past.” The present “reality” becomes memory unless a choice is made to maintain the present. So, in such a way a "memory" can become the present focus. Through our own choices the ever-fleeting present moment can be the focus or so can an abstraction as the imagined --becomes REALITY. Thus, is the goal of this band -- To journey one through focal points in time; Musically and Abstractly transferring the Imagined into Reality. Whose reality you may ask? Who knows, for certain! This music will take you on journeys through genres of music both future and past, but always with a foot in each realm. Enjoy the trip!ABOUT DAVE BAXLEY: primarily a “live-oriented” prog-rock keyboardist, inspired by the stylings of Genesis and Yes, he co-formed Azure (recorded “Circle” in 2000) and has recorded three solo albums; as an audio engineer he’s co-produced projects for Dan Marshall, John Hansen, tracked with groups such as Temple of ...
