| | Patty Griffin Impossible Dream CD - Import Patty Griffin Discography of CDs
This UK release contains three extra songs--"Chief," "Truth," and "Rain"--recorded live with Emmylou Harris.
Expanding on her 2002 all-acoustic outing, 1000 KISSES, Patty Griffin delivers a stellar, full-band sound on her masterful fourth album, IMPOSSIBLE DREAM. With support from producer/guitarist Craig Ross, as well as guest vocalists Buddy and Julie Miller and Emmylou Harris, Griffin serves up a hearty mix of Americana-flavored fare marinated in organic ambiance. Possessing a voice with a slight twang, reminiscent of Iris DeMent, Griffin belies her Boston roots with a wealth of Southern-flavored songs that include "Standing," a goose-bump-inducing tune with gospel overtones, and "Useless Desires," a high-lonesome tale with fiddle accompaniment by Lisa Germano. Diehard Griffin fans will be pleased to finally see the studio version of longtime concert favorite "Florida" and a handful of tracks inexplicably rejected by her prior label. Foremost among them is the seven-minute epic "Mother of God," a gorgeous, piano-laced composition that threads memories together in a manner that shifts the mood from melancholy to bright hope.
Includes three bonus live tracks recorded with Emmylou Harris.
CD contains 3 bonus tracks.Entertainment Weekly (No. 761, p.83) - "[Griffin] makes even gloomy folk ravishing." - Rating: B+ Uncut (p.116) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[A] gem, full of wonderfully direct narrative songs in a classic folk-country-rock vein, plus a couple of gospel-tinged numbers." Dirty Linen (pp.45-6) - "[T]he production is rich and crisp - a perfect setting for what may be Griffin's most poignant, exquisite set of tunes yet." Impossible Dream Review

Impossible Dream album
$7.99 1000 KISSES was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Patty Griffin's success is either a testament to the eclecticism of the American music-buying public or to the success of the soundtrack to the movie OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU? 1000 KISSES isn't a great departure for the Boston singer-songwriter--she's still singing the kind of perfectly formed mini-stories that inhabited her debut album, 1996's LIVING WITH GHOSTS. The main difference here is the assurance with which she presents her material--it's spare, sparsely orchestrated, mostly just acoustic guitar and bass, with the accent on her world-weary yet optimistic vocals and lyrics, eschewing the rock accompaniment of her previous album, FLAMING RED.
Griffin's songs aren't particularly country-based, but more part of a long line of American folk music that spans both the omnipresent "Man of Constant Sorrow" and the songs of Lucinda Williams. She's equally at home with the cozy domesticity of "Making Pies" ...

Impossible Dream CD music
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here ...

Impossible Dream music CDs
$10.49 This outing by Irish pop singer Ronan Keating, formerly of Boyzone, includes "In This Life," "Heal Me," and "Brighter Days."
Unanimously, the most popular singer from the Irish group Boyzone is lead singer Ronan Keating whose debut solo album is aptly titled Ronan. The album retains some of Boyzone's style, though it is appropriately, if not determinedly, subdued. That is a bit of a shock for a debut. Keeping in mind that Gary Barlow tried the same thing and missed the target, while Robbie Williams went all out with an egocentric rock album and became a British landmark, one would have expected a little more oomph. Ronan must not be caught up in trends. Besides, the album seems to fit his personality, which is quieter and modest compared to most boy group members. The album sports the number one European singles "When You Say Nothing at All" and "Life Is a Rollercoaster," which helped propel the album to the top of the charts for a short while. Indeed, it did not stand out as one of the great musical triumphs of the year, but it is not without charm, thanks to its sincerity. Bryan Adams provides the soft ballad "The Way You Make Me Feel," while Rick Nowels conjures up ...
