A unique Japanese issue of the popular American group's sophomore release; includes 7 bonus remixes of tracks from the album. In addition, there are 5 enhanced videos, 3 of which are promotional videos and 2 were recorded live. Also includes full lyrics in both English and Japanese.
The title of Interpol's second album, ANTICS, may conjure up images of carefree adventure, but anyone familiar with the New York City band's brooding post-punk sound knows that there's nothing lighthearted about their music. Although it's not a radical departure, ANTICS does reveal a broadening of the group's sonic palette. The opening track, "Next Exit," is a slowly building, piano-laden anthem, marked by singer Paul Banks's remarkably widened vocal range and strangely hopeful lyrics. Clearly the group is eager to move beyond the endless Joy Division comparisons they previously garnered, and this bid works to wonderful effect. Of course, many of the elements that made their debut, TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, so entrancing--soaring guitar riffs, tight bass lines, frenetic drumming--are still present, particularly on "Narc" and "Slow Hands," but even these tracks aren't merely content to repeat past glories. A solid album that improves upon its predecessor, ANTICS sees Interpol shaking off the mixed blessing of being the Next Big Thing, and hitting a new creative stride.
Exclusive Japanese reissue of their album originally released in 2004 features a bonus disc with seven additional audio tracks and five enhanced videos. Bonus audio tracks, 'Fog Vs. Mould for the Length of Love', 'Narc' (Paul Banks Remix), 'Not Even Jail' (Daniel Kessler Remix), 'Public Pervert' (Carlos D Remix), 'Slow Hands' (Dan the Automator Remix), 'Slow Hands' (Britt Daniel Remix) and 'Eden' (Eden Session). The Enhanced portion contains, 'Slow Hands' (Promo Video), 'Evil' (Promo Video), 'C'Mere' (Promo Video), 'PDA' (Live) and 'Slow Hands' (Live). EMI. 2005.Rolling Stone (p.96) - 4 stars out of 5 - "ANTICS achieves a tunefulness that warms and broadens Interpol's music, and helps them establish an identity distinct from their dolorous influences." Entertainment Weekly (p.73) - "[A]mong the free-associated lyrics about hurting hearts and, literally, ship in the night is a band that's just begun to excavate the crevices of their cold, dark souls." - Grade: B+ Uncut (p.98) - 4 stars out of 5 - "[A]ngular and intense....This is cut to perfection: exhilarating, morbid, romantic, cool." Uncut (p.76) - Ranked #40 in Uncut's "Best New Albums of 2004" - "Thrillingly morbid and yet somehow coldly sexy." Magnet (p.67) - Ranked #12 in Magnet's "The 20 Best Albums Of 2004" - "ANTICS swells with broad-shouldered choruses and frontman Paul Banks' romantic verse." CMJ (p.42) - "[I]ncorporating some surprisingly effective disco elements, where the totally underrated rhythm section really shines." Mojo (Publisher) (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 - "ANTICS certainly packs the same wired punch as their first album..." Antics album
$5.55 CARNIVAL OF SOULS is the last studio recording with Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer before the return of original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.
Despite a 1996 press conference on the U.S.S. Intrepid that announced Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer were on a "paid temporary vacation," the two were dismissed months later after a reunion tour of the original make-up clad members proved wildly successful. As the sub-heading states, CARNIVAL OF SOULS is the last recorded efforts of Kulick and Singer with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Drawing on music trends started as far back as the lean times of the '80s, CARNIVAL finds Kiss putting together a sound that draws from the dirge of Alice In Chains and the crunch of old-school Metallica.
Much more somber than prior Kiss albums, nihilism runs rampant on songs such as "Hate" and "I Walk Alone." The mid-paced tempos of "Childhood's End" and "I Will Be There" inject some variety into a mix that includes Middle Eastern guitar phrasing in "Seduction Of The Innocent." In addition to Kulick flexing his instrumental muscles, two songs he co-wrote, "In The Mirror" and ...

| | Horrors Strange House CD (2007) Enhanced CD
Antics music CDs
$9.99 On their singles and EPs, the Horrors proved they'd done their post-punk and freakbeat homework. With their debut album, Strange House, they push their sound forward, distill it to its rawest essence, and give it a few funhouse mirror twists and turns for good measure. Almost half of the songs on the album already appeared on previous Horrors releases, but the ever-so-slightly cleaner production here gives more definition to their black-on-black sound. The band kicks off Strange House by revisiting their cover of Screaming Lord Sutch's "Jack the Ripper," which begins at a zombie-slow pace, then suddenly speeds up halfway through, transforming into a hurtling roller coaster of a song that makes a great introduction to Strange House's mix of campy humor, ...

Antics songs
$12.49 Bullet Records was one of the most successful independent record labels in the immediate post-World War II era. Founded in 1945 in Nashville by Jim Bulliet, Wally Fowler, and C.V. Hitchcock, the imprint had an initial plan to release records across a broad range of styles that included pop, gospel, county, R&B, and blues, but by the time Bulliet departed the label in 1948, the company's releases were largely for the country (then called hillbilly) and blues markets only. Bulliet was replaced by Overton Ganong in 1949, who stayed around just long enough to hand the reins over to W.C. "Red" Wortham a year or so later. By 1952 Bullet Records was dead in the water, which certainly wasn't Wortham's doing, since he had essentially inherited a sinking ship. Wortham and Bulliet revived the label toward the end of the decade, and when Bulliet again backed out, Wortham steered things through into the 1970s, by which time Bullet had descended to being a custom label for hire putting out anything anyone would pay to have released. This set features 25 Nashville-flavored blues sides from Bullet's late-'40s and early-'50s run. Much of the label's catalog (the masters were kept on aluminum discs -- tape was not yet the dominant recording medium at the time) was foolishly discarded or sold as scrap, so what's here is here by fortune. As a rule, Bullet's blues stuff was on the light side, often piano-based, with a touch of jazz tossed in, and wasn't gritty so much as brightly weary. Highlights here include St. Louis Jimmy's "Going Down Slow" from 1947, Roosevelt Sykes' jazzy and impressive "Candy Man Blues" (recorded in Chicago by Lester Melrose) ...
