(1 Customer Review)
Originality can be a beautiful thing. It's hard not to feel excited when you remember the first time you heard someone as fresh-sounding and boldly original as Radiohead, De La Soul, Nirvana, John Coltrane, or Nellie McKay. That said, anyone who insists on originality and innovation from every artist who comes along -- a highly unrealistic expectation -- is cutting himself off from a lot of worthwhile albums. There are some releases that aren't the least bit original but still deserve credit for quality, inspiration, and craftsmanship. A case in point is Holy Hell, which merits a favorable response regardless of the fact that Rob Rock is totally derivative. The main focus of this album is '70s/'80s-style power metal, an approach that -- like hair band pop-metal -- has sounded very dated since the Nirvana/Pearl Jam/grunge upheaval of the early '90s. But even though power metal has been flying under the radar for a long time, it has maintained an enthusiastic cult following. Although released in 2005, this solo effort from singer Rob Rock (formerly of Impellitteri) sounds like it could have been recorded 20 or 25 years earlier. There isn't a trace of alternative metal, death metal/black metal, or metalcore to be found on Holy Hell; this hard-driving yet melodic effort is firmly planted in the old-school aesthetic of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio, and Queensrÿche -- at least musically. One thing that separates Rock from those artists is the fact that "Lion of Judah," "Calling Angels," and other songs on Holy Hell are coming from a Christian perspective. But Rock isn't preachy or annoying about his religion, and many of the metal websites that reviewed Holy Hell didn't seem to pick up on the Christian leanings of this album -- which underscores the fact that metal doesn't have to be groundbreaking to be worthwhile and enjoyable. ~ Alex Henderson
'Journey-man' vocalist Rob Rock unleashes his latest solo album, assisted by producer/instrumentalist Roy Z (who's credits include Bruce Dickinson's solo albums and the latest Judas Priest album). This is the versatile singer's third solo studio album, it is an excellent example of melodic metal, perfectly showcasing Rob's powerful, soulful voice. " CD including bonus track "I'll Be Waiting For You" and video clip. AFM Records. 2005.

Holy Hell music CDs
$10.89 Anyone who is seriously knowledgeable of metal's past and present can tell you that there's a brave new world in headbanger music. Today's neo-headbangers are likely to be influenced by punk, hip-hop, or industrial music; they probably grew up listening to the Notorious B.I.G., Black Flag, and Skinny Puppy, as well as Slayer and Metallica, and they might even consider a hip-hop DJ the perfect companion for downtuned guitars and chug-chug riffs. But not every metal band that was formed in the '90s or 2000s is part of this brave new world. In the power metal revival field, the past isn't just something you admire -- it's something you carefully emulate, which is exactly what Iron Savior do on Battering Ram. This 2004 release finds the German metalheads continuing to do what they've been doing since 1996; they're still partying like it's 1982. Totally oblivious to trends in post-'80s alt metal, Iron Savior stubbornly maintain their devotion to the classic power metal of the '70s and '80s. Everything on this CD sounds like it could have been recorded 20 or 25 years earlier, which is just as well, because Savior's ...
| | Hammerfall Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken CD (2005)
Holy Hell songs
$12.09 As helpfully pointed out in the title, Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken sees Swedish metal institution Hammerfall hoisting aloft the torch of power metal (unbent, unbowed, etc.) for the fifth full-studio album of their career. But "power" metal may no longer the best tag with which to describe the band, whose material here ("Blood Bound," "Fury of the Wild," "Born to Rule," etc.) is really better described as classic, vintage, or better yet, timeless heavy metal, if you will. Extract any telltale signs of studio technology or audio fidelity and the band's sound really could have originated in the '80s or '90s, as easily as the '00s. And even more telling is the relative absence of speed metal drumming, used here only for small portions -- not the entirety -- of structurally varied songs like "Secrets" and "Take the Black." This may sound like a silly little detail, but it really does liberate Hammerfall from unfair comparison to a slew of boring, cliché-bound contemporaries. Sure, "Never, Ever" is a cliché in itself for representing the textbook ...
| | Primal Fear Seven Seals CD (2005)
Holy Hell album
$10.35 Love it or hate it, power metal is here to stay; and no band has done more staying than German supergroup Primal Fear, who arrive at their sixth studio release, Seven Seals (and seventh release overall, if you count 2002's Horrorscope EP -- hence the title), showing just as much conviction and, er, power, as ever before. What's more, where recent efforts had found singer Ralf Scheepers (ex-Gamma Ray, near-Rob Halford replacement) somewhat uninspired and prone to merely reminding you, again and again, how gloriously metallic metal is, here he proceeds to discuss how gloriously metallic things like demons, angels, and roller coasters are. Yes, we're hardly talking thought-provoking social commentary here, but when it comes to heroic, unapologetic, chest-pounding Teutonic metallurgy, it really doesn't get much better than album standouts like "Rollercoaster," "Evil Spell," and "The Immortal Ones," with their anthemic riffs, soaring choruses, ...
| | Edguy Rocket Ride CD (2006) Bonus Tracks
Holy Hell CD music
$13.85 It's easy to belittle power metal bands because they often marry portentous musical ambitions with hackneyed Manowar-like posturing that only a 12-year-old could possibly buy into; Germany's Edguy, however, are clever enough to flip those tables by making it evident that they don't take themselves all that seriously. Eight albums into the quintet's career, Edguy have in many ways succeeded where genre daddies Helloween first bit the dust -- injecting ample doses of fun, on-stage glam-metal gymnastics, Scorpions-like face pulling, and unselfconscious humor into what is normally an outwardly ...

Holy Hell album
$25.35 THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION includes rare tracks from the Health & Happiness radio show, pseudonymous tracks as Luke The Drifter, and 5 rarities only available on THE COMPLETE HANK WILLIAMS box set.
Recorded between April 21, 1947 & September 23, 1952. Includes liner notes by Kita Florita.
While there are numerous Hank Williams compilations on the market, very few can compete with this outstanding 2002 two-disc set, sporting wonderfully remastered sound, which surveys the hard-living country legend's all-too-brief yet toweringly important recording career during the late 1940s and early '50s. In addition to including Williams hits such as the saucy "Hey, Good Lookin'" and the morbidly witty "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" (fittingly released around the time of his 1953 death), THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION presents revered lesser-known tunes such as the restless "Ramblin' Man" (issued under the alias "Luke the Drifter") and the beautifully melancholy "Lost Highway," all of which feature the performer's charmingly nasal drawl and spare, lilting arrangements. Although more comprehensive Williams anthologies ...

| | Papa Don Living Life CD (2006)
Holy Hell songs
$7.49 .Papa Don aka Carmoenotti was born in Oakland March 19,1981. At a very young age he fell in love with music. By the age of 13 Don created his own style of hip/hop. One could say his style is a twist between Bay Area Rap/Hyphy/ R&B/Club. As he grew older and realized he wanted music to be his profession he started his own independent record company called''Hoodstar Records''. Since 2003 he has produced two of his own albums. His first album 'Living Life', is a hip hop/rap/rnb/hyphy album with 12 banging tracks that the streets are absolutly loving . He has maintained a positive outlook on life and has stayed out of trouble by focusing on his music. He made his bread and butter by selling his cd's on the streets of SFC, Oakland and other neighboring ...
