| | Paul McCartney Good Evening New York City CDs (2009) With DVD; Digipak

$15.98 Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. with a whopping 17 of its 35 tracks shared between the two titles. More importantly, the vibe is the same, with Macca delivering an expertly balanced and sequenced set with all the skill of the old pro that he is. Apart from the inclusion of "Mrs. Vanderbilt" and "I'm Down," there are no surprises, either in song selection or performance, but no surprises doesn't mean no satisfaction, and this is plenty entertaining

| | John Fogerty Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again CDs (2009) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Bikes
$14.29 John Fogerty released his first solo CD, an album of covers on which he played all the instruments, under the name the "Blue Ridge Rangers," and he revives that concept on 2009's THE BLUE RIDGE RANGERS RIDES AGAIN. Where the first smacked of the righteous zeal of a young purist, RIDES AGAIN is a lot looser in its attack, which is reflected in the way it splits the difference between country and rockabilly classics and reflective numbers from '70s songwriters. These unexpected covers of John Prine, Delaney & Bonnie, and John Denver offer a peek at a sweeter, ...

| | Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo! CDs (1978) Import; Remastered
Bikes
$18.59 If you were a male teenager and a heavy metal fan back in the late 1970s, chances are your record collection included well-worn copies of two live albums--Kiss's ALIVE and Ted Nugent's DOUBLE LIVE GONZO. Both solidified each artist's standing as arena-headliners, as their concerts sold out due to their high-energy, entertaining live shows.
DOUBLE LIVE GONZO also marked the last Nugent album until 1982 to feature singer/rhythm guitarist Derek St. Holmes, who was a major musical contributor to Ted's solo success. A consistently riveting listen from beginning to end, individual standouts include amped-up versions of such classic Nugent rockers as "Just What the Doctor Ordered," "Stranglehold," "Great White Buffalo," and "Cat Scratch Fever."
As exciting as they were, Ted Nugent's first three albums lacked the sonic punch in the gut of his outrageous live performances, something readily proved by 1978's classic Double Live Gonzo! Both Nugent and his band are in top form, yielding a fierce performance of their numerous mid-'70s classics. Mega-hit "Cat Scratch Fever" makes an obligatory appearance, but it's the songs from Nugent's self-titled debut which truly stand out. "Just What the Doctor Ordered" is damn near perfect, and the band really clicks on extended jams through "Motor City Madhouse" and the fantastic "Stranglehold." A consummate showman, Nugent also unleashes a number of hilarious, motor-mouth stage raps on "Baby Please Don't Go" and "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" before offering the definitive version of his early classic "Great White Buffalo." In the year of the live album (1978), this one's about as good as they come. [Rock Candy's special edition adds special packaging, including a 12-page poster booklet, along with remastered sound.] ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
Import only remastered re-issue. In 1978 Ted Nugent unleashed one the greatest double live albums of the seventies. Indulging in a work ethic that would put today's young guns to shame, Double Live Gonzo! celebrates Ted's mid seventies glory years perfectly. Captured ...

$16.45 Snoblind was formed in Hong Kong in 2002 by Regina Chang (ex-M2R) and Vincent Wong. The two members, who happened to play bass and guitar get hooked up and started make music with their computers. What started as a water-fountain conversation joke project blossomed into a full fledge on-going sonic and visual experiment. Taking their cues from their respective formative musical years, Snoblind combined traditional rock instruments with computers, samplers and other electronic effects to create an expressive blend of music. Taking advantage of computer ...
