| | Muddy Waters Woodstock Album CD (1975)
Big Fun Tonite music CDs
$4.49 Part a follow-up to Muddy Waters' LONDON SESSIONS album (where he was fronting a band of British rock stars heavily influenced by him), part the result of Band drummer/singer Levon Helm and producer Henry Glover's desire to work with Waters, the 1975 WOODSTOCK ALBUM catches Waters in fine form. Waters sounds less fierce and menacing than on many of his albums, though no less forceful. In fact, Waters sounds relaxed (but NOT mellow!) and jovial, befitting the easygoing, R&B-styled program. The band, featuring the piano and vocals of Pinetop Perkins and the razor-sharp harmonica of Paul ...
| | Eva Cassidy Time After Time CD (2000)
Big Fun Tonite songs
$13.45 Principally recorded at The Maryland Inn, Annapolis, Maryland. Includes liner notes by Kevin Howlett.
As is so often the case, the talents of singer Eva Cassidy did note come to public attention until after her death. Cassidy died at a mere 33 years of age in 1996, and up until then she'd only been known in the local music scene of Washington D.C. Subsequently, a word-of-mouth groundswell earned her posthumous popularity in England, which then wafted back over to the U.S. TIME AFTER TIME is a good introduction to Cassidy's work. More an interpreter than a writer, Cassidy completely inhabits everything from Simon & Garfunkel's folky ballad "Kathy's Song" to Joni Mitchell's hippie anthem "Woodstock" and Bill Withers's brooding R&B classic "Ain't No Sunshine." Throughout the album, ...

| | Koko Taylor Royal Blue CD (2000)
Big Fun Tonite album
$14.35 Principally recorded at Chicago Recording Co. and Streeterville Studios, Chicago, Illinois.
ROYAL BLUE was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
For her first album in seven years, Koko Taylor returns with a flurry of gritty material and a roster of guest royalty befitting the Queen of the Blues. Kicking things off with the fiery "Save Your Breath," Taylor keeps the temperature high with swaggering originals like the stop-start "Don't Let Me Catch You (With Your Drawers Down)" and the gutbucket blues "Ernestine" (featuring Johnnie Johnson's supple piano playing). The most impressive self-penned number is "The Man Next Door," a duet with Keb' Mo' with a stripped-down arrangement featuring a reigned-in vocal turn by Taylor goosed along by Mo's twangy National Steel guitar and wailing harmonica.
Elsewhere, the Queen mixes it up with young hotshot Kenny Wayne Shepherd (a searing cover of Melissa Etheridge's "Bring Me Some Water") and meets up with regal counterpart B.B. King (the crackling "Blues Hotel"). Taylor also has fun leisurely tearing into Ray ...

| | Sid Selvidge Live At Otherlands CDs (2005) Bonus DVD
Big Fun Tonite album
$15.05 Sid Selvidge has had a musical career as expansive as the Mississippi Delta -- and as true to his roots as the bluesmen of yesteryear. In short, it's been the real thing. Selvidge was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and got his first guitar at age 13. As a teenager he disc jockeyed at radio station WDDT in Greenville, and later at KWAM in Memphis. While in Memphis he performed at the famous Bitter Lemon Club, where he studied the styles of legendary bluesmen Furry Lewis and Mississippi Fred McDowell. He honestly understands the songs he sings, which is why listeners love to hear them. "Sid Selvidge, who comes from Mississippi by way of Memphis, is neither country nor rock," said John Rockwell of the New York Times. "He's pretty much everything musically in the whole Southeast." Selvidge graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis with a degree in Anthropology and later taught there. His first album, Portrait, was recorded while he was still in school, on Enterprise Records, a subsidiary of Memphis-based Stax Records. Selvidge then traveled to New York where he played his style of roots and folk music before fascinated audiences. He received rave reviews. "His voice is an astonishing instrument," said ...
