(5 Customer Reviews)
ERIKA JO begins with a flourish via the hook-laden flirtations of "I Break Things," a beer-soaked anthem that's both fun and clever. The young vocalist shows her range on songs that vary in energy from steady and uplifting ("Strong Tonight") to somberly reflective ("Go"), and in style from bouncy bluegrass ("Going 'til You're Gone") to complex and Beatle-esque ("There Are No Accidents"). She has a knack for uncovering the underlying passion in a well-composed pop song, as on the winsome "Good Day For Goodbye" and her revamp of Jessi Colter's classic hit about pining lovers, "I'm Not Lisa." With her debut record, the youthful Erika Jo proves her television triumph no fluke, with an accomplished collection of tunes.
While Erika Jo became the youngest person (and first woman) to win the USA Network's NASHVILLE STAR contest, her voice has a worldly understanding beyond her years. Jo has a hopeful/weary, tremblingly confident voice that falls somewhere between Dolly Parton and Reba McIntyre. That voice perfectly matches the music on her swiftly released, 2005 eponymous debut which hearkens back to the folksy country-rock that dominated country radio around the time of her birth.
Personnel: Erika Jo (vocals); Steve Mandile (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Steve Gibson (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason (electric guitar); Paul Franklin (steel guitar, lap steel guitar, dobro); Aubrey Haynie (mandolin, fiddle); John Jarvis (piano); Steve Nathan (Hammond b-3 organ, keyboards); Jimmie Lee Sloas, Larry Paxton (bass instrument); Eddie Bayers (drums); Chuck Tilley (percussion); Thomas Flora, Harry Stinson, Wes Hightower, Russell Terrell (background vocals).

They picked the right one Let me tell you, as soon as I saw this album in stores, I immediately purchased it. And I have to say this is just an awesome first single for a new artist. Erika Jo was definitely the best out of all the contestants on Nashville Star. Five stars way, way up! Submitted by shadowypast (Missouri) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A New Nashville Star! The competition on Nashville Star this past season was tough, but America voted, and Erika Jo was crowned the new Star. This album definitely let’s everyone who voted know that they made the right choice. It’s a great country album from a young new singer with a powerful voice. The first single “I Break Things” is a great up-tempo song that really showcases Erika’s powerful voice. If this choice of a single says anything about her, it’s that she can sing. She further proves this on the ballad “Go”, an inspirational song that deals with going after your dreams, something that seems almost autobiographical for Erika. Other great songs are “Strong Tonight”, a great song that follows in the footsteps of Leann Rimes “Suddenly”, and the meaningful ballad “I’m not Lisa”. If you’re a fan of good country music and great vocals, Erika’s is definitely an album that you’ll want to pick up! Submitted by Britney (Los Angeles, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Erika Jo album
$6.85 When 2005's DELICIOUS SURPRISE was released, many contemporary female country singers were unveiling traditional-sounding discs hearkening back to Nashville's 1960s and '70s glory days. Never one to follow the trends, Jo Dee Messina stayed ...

| | Lee Ann Womack There's More Where That Came From CD (2005)
Erika Jo music CDs
$12.59 Though Lee Ann Womack's voice has always betrayed the influence of 1960s and '70s country music, prior to THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM, her albums often concentrated on sophisticated Nashville pop-country. The vintage-style soft-focus cover photo and faux record dust jacket here, however, immediately signal a change of direction.
From the opening honky-tonk fiddle notes of the title track, it's clear that this disc is a conscious nod to the spirit of classics by Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn. Throughout the album, Womack's expressive vocals are backed by careening steel guitars and sweet piano licks, which seem to flow straight from the spirit hands of the late Nashville great Floyd Cramer. Though many of these songs deal with contemporary subject matter, they are treated with a gravity that is purely old-fashioned. "I May Hate Myself ...

The spelling of Kheaven Brereton's first name is not coincidental: Brereton, aka K-Os, brings a heavy dose of spirituality to his debut hip-hop album, and a healthy dose of positivity as well. It's not the only aspect that deviates from the turn of the millennium hip-hop formula, though: It's also an eclectic mix of musical styles, incorporating everything from standard hip-hop beats to reggae, soul, and even ...

Erika Jo album
$18.59 The country was under attack, succumbing to a second British Invasion that was laying waste to the nation's own music scene. To the rescue rode a quartet of fresh-scrubbed American heroes led by the son of famed comedian Jerry Lewis. So devastating was Gary Lewis & the Playboys' counter-offensive, that they set three albums exploding into the U.S. chart in 1965 alone. This compilation brings together in their entirety two of those -- their debut This Diamond Ring and its follow-up A Session with Gary Lewis & the Playboys. The former's title track had already topped the singles chart by the time the album arrived in ...
