| | Lyricist Lounge: Dirty States Of America CD (2004)
Dirty South Ballin, Vol. 2 CD music
$13.35 When it comes to being an overview, the soundtrack to Lyricist Lounge's Dirty States of America comes up short compared to the DVD, but that doesn't mean it's wack. While the DVD covers everything from Florida booty to cough syrup-sippin' screwed and chopped music, the CD focuses on the middle of the Southern rap spectrum. There's the usual thumping bass, sparse production, grinding guitars, and raps with gruff growls, slack-jawed slang, and plenty of Southern pride. Past B.G., David Banner, and E.S.G., this is the B-list of Southern rappers, not a comment on their talent but an indication that this is Southern rap in its purist form. Tracks come right out of bedroom studios with all the local slang and no major label marginalizing. Partners-N-Crime update their party anthem "N.O. Block Party" with help from Choppa, David Banner and Bun B rock out on "Hold Up," and JT Money gives the listener a vivid picture of his ...
| | George Benson Songs And Stories CDs (2009) Bonus DVD; Digipak
Dirty South Ballin, Vol. 2 music CDs
$15.70 George Benson's sound is so recognizable that, in its way, it's quite comforting to hear his voice or his guitar come across on the radio or in a club. His recordings have been polished and extravagant in many cases, but there are those signature ...
| | Kirk Franklin And The Family Christmas CD (1995)
Dirty South Ballin, Vol. 2 songs
$9.49 In addition to energized versions of such treasured Christmas songs as "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Silent Night," Franklin & the Family contribute several non-traditional songs that explore the depth of God's love and the Christian basis for the holiday. "Now Behold the Lamb," for example, is a ballad that testifies to the truth of salvation, and features stirring ensemble singing, strong solo vocalists, and plenty of enthusiastic exclamations. The deeply funky "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season" kicks things up a notch with its bumping rhythm and infectious chorus. With its mix of old and new musical styles and its impassioned performances, CHRISTMAS is sure to please those ...
| | Ultimate Bee Gees: The 50th Anniversary Collection CDs (2009)
Dirty South Ballin, Vol. 2 album
$20.15 Functioning as something of a replacement for the 2001 collection Their Greatest Hits: The Record, The Ultimate Bee Gees covers much of the same ground as that double-disc set, albeit in not quite so linear a fashion. The Record marched through its 40 tracks chronologically, opening with the stately baroque Beatlesque pop of the '60s and then winding through the '70s, whereas this opens with the bright, fabulous blast of "You Should Be Dancing" and remains ...

$7.05 Recorded between 1985 & 1994. Includes liner notes by Tanya O'Quinn.
This is part of MCA's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series.
For a midline-priced compilation, this survey of the work of '80s funk band Ready for the World has a lot going for it. At a running time of 73 and a half minutes, much longer than you expect for a disc with such a modest price, it contains all of the group's chart hits as well as "Whose Is It?," the first chart entry by former bandleader Melvin Riley in 1994. To provide variety from the group's regular hits collection, several of the tracks are presented in unusual mixes or edits. The version of "Ceramic Girl" is taken from ...
