| | Offspring Greatest Hits CD Offspring Discography of CDs
(10 Customer Reviews)
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Plenty of SoCal punk diehards decried The Offspring to be "sellouts" when they leapt from cherished indie Epitaph to the major-label stables at Columbia Records. But one listen to this GREATEST HITS compilation points to a band that was never destined to stay underground for long. In crafting clever pop-punk that addressed the concerns of teen skate-punks everywhere, this California quartet cranked out radio-friendly cuts every bit as viable as anything peers like Green Day and Blink 182 were producing during the same time period. Social observations not only poked fun at suburban kids affecting inner-city mannerisms ("Pretty Fly [For a White Guy]"), but gold diggers ("Why Don't You Get a Job?") and the lost opportunities of a younger generation ("The Kids Aren't All right"). The sing-along choruses and irresistible bassline of "Self Esteem" succinctly paint an all-too familiar picture of lovelorn guys getting played by manipulative gals. And there's no denying the chunky, Middle Eastern-flavored hooks that made "Come Out and Play (Keep 'Em Separated)" such a ubiquitous presence on mid-'90s airwaves. A hidden bonus cover of The Police's "Next to You" tops off this superb compilation from one of the most successful and likeable acts of the mid-'90s punk-pop scene.
This dualdisc includes the entire album in enhanced stereo, plus in-studio retrospective, in-studio acoustic session, and rare live footage.

Pretty Good (for a greatest hits) lets face it The Offspring kicks ass, but this CD doesn't cover all of their best music. Where are the tracks that pushed The Offspring into stardom? If you buy this CD you have to go and buy The Offspring's self titled CD. Submitted by joe_shmoe (Walla Walla, Washington) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Greatest Hits album
$8.95 This is an Enhanced audio CD, which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
AMERICANA continues the contradiction fostered by the Offspring with IXNAY ON THE HOMBRE; that of an anarchistic punk band signing up with and using the resources of a mighty recording industry monolith. Diatribes aside, these southern California punks have continued concocting breakneck-paced songs that combine intelligent lyrics with rapid-fire rhythms ...

| | Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here CD (1975) Remastered
Greatest Hits music CDs
$11.95 Digitally remastered by Doug Sax (The Mastering Lab, Los Angeles, California).

The breakthrough success of DARK SIDE OF THE MOON made WISH YOU WERE HERE a crucial follow-up in strictly commercial terms. Further pressure came from it being Pink Floyd's first recording for a new label, Columbia. Yet the demands on the band only provided Roger Waters with more fodder for his lyrics, which glanced at the band's roots as well as their new responsibilities.

Ten years after the death of Kurt Cobain, Nirvana fans finally got what they had been waiting for in the form of 2004's WITH THE LIGHTS OUT, an extensive three-CD/one-DVD box set spanning the deified rock band's career. Part of Nirvana's charm was its gleefully subversive aesthetic, and this trait is heavily featured on Disc One, which begins with a slaughtered ...

| | Best Of Nelson Rangell CD (1998)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$12.35 On first listen, the songs on The Very Best of Nelson Rangell don't sound any different than the kind of smooth, lite-jazz/easy listening pop that one would find on a Spyro Gyra record, and certainly this album fits comfortably in that oft-maligned genre. What makes Rangell different from, say, David Sanborn or Kenny G is not his arrangements, which tend to be pedestrian and colorless (you've heard these MIDI synthesizers and George Benson-influenced guitars dozens of times before), but his taste for songs that have some real melodic weight to them, like Bacharach/David's classic "A House Is Not a Home" or his own "Little Dream Girl." Add in the fact that Rangell is actually a gifted soloist capable of twisting away from simple, melodic lines without losing the cozy accessibility that's the calling card of this style of jazz, and that the songs' relatively extended playing times -- most are in the five-to-eight-minute range -- give him room to stretch out, and The Very Best of Nelson Rangell becomes something of an exemplar of the style. It won't win over confirmed smooth jazz haters, but this is about as good as this type of music gets. ~ Stewart Mason

| | Greatest Show On Earth Going's Easy CD (1970)
Greatest Hits songs
$13.85 As had been the case with the Greatest Show on Earth's (GSOE) debut long-player, Horizons (1970), the follow-up, Going's Easy (1970), made very little impact despite their originality and certainly better-than-average material. The band's rather auspicious origins were the invention of EMI Records subsidiary Harvest, who set out to manufacture a British version of Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago -- both of whom successfully fused a brass and woodwind section ...
