For someone who apparently derives pleasure from pulling Andy Kauffman-esque tricks on the media, he is a dead serious songwriting talent. Coming off a critically acclaimed run with former band mates MK Ultra, he retains some of their more hard-edged rock elements, as on the muscularly dreamy "Speed Lab" and the punchy "And What Did You Do Today." $17.09 CAROLYN SYKES, HARPIST, was born in Melbourne Australia and in 1976, while still in high school, TOURED EUROPE AND ASIA with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra. Upon returning, she helped found Melbourne's Parkville Music School for children. After moving to Sydney in 1980 she TOURED AUSTRALIA performing as a soloist and with the Latin American all women group Amaranta. She won AWARDS at the 1986 and 1988 International Jazz and Pop Harp Competitions in Boston, and as a result received a full scholarship to the University of Arizona, where she studied with Carrol McLaughlin (harp) and Jeff Haskel (jazz). In 1990, she recorded her first CD, Tinges of Colour, for voice and harp. She has appeared in the Williamstown Theatre Festival (Massachusetts), the Soka City International Harp Festival (Japan), Jazz in July (Massachusetts), and at the University of Nagoya (Japan). She has also worked in the Shoji Tabuchi Show (Branson, Missouri), where she wrote arrangements for his band.
